Actually the warranty is voided when you unlock your bootloader, not the rooting process. If you can root without unlocking the bootloader (like the N1), the warranty wont be void when you unroot.

The good news is that HTC is rather cool with unlocked phones. There have been reports that HTC still honors the warranty even when the customers send in unlocked sets.

Trackball Alert only works with Custom ROMs (Cyan, MCR). I tried it on a rooted stock ROM and failed.

Isnt that a Nexus One feature? I dont think Desire have that unlock screen while booting. Then again I may be wrong.

You can force stop it. Go to Settings->Applications->Manage Applications, look for the app you want to stop. Tap it and choose 'Force Stop'.

ROMs are relatively large files (60-100MB). So developers tend to use file sharing services (like rapidshare, megaupload, etc) or use their own servers to host them. Very rarely you'll see ROMs hosted on XDA itself (RUU and stocks ROMs are the exceptions). In other words, you dont need to be an XDA member to download Custom ROMs. You just need to go there to get the links.

I believe there's a new Handcent that will fix just that. Update your copy now.

guys, you might wanna consider class 4 or higher for FroYo's sake. Since apps can natively be moved to the SD, the throughput of a class 2 card might be a bottleneck. So, if you can, go for a class 4 at least (and careful with fakes one out there).

You can use Bettercut or Anycut or Folder Organizer. You can also get those Home screen replacement apps that supports theming (aHome, PandaHome, OpenHome, etc).

Although it is installed on SD, some space in the internal storage is still utilized by the app. This is normal. Sometimes apps put stuff the /data folder. This depends on how the A2SD is implemented by the ROM. If it uses symlinks to trick the phone into thinking that the data/app is in internal memory while it is already residing in SD, then chances are that data/data folder is still on your internal memory. That's where apps store their data and that's why your internal memory still goes down after installing an app.

If you're using Amon-RA, you dont need to name it update.zip. You can freely name the .zip to anything. Folder is supported by Clockwork, Amon-RA needs the .zip file to be in the root of the SD.

umm bro, that's an N1 OTA. Please double check whether it's safe to flash that file on your Desire.
(Passion is Nexus One's codename. For Desire, it should be Bravo).

What ROM are you using?

Look for Build Number and Android version.

I'm wondering why are you getting the Froyo OTA notification as you seem to be running on a non-Nexus stock ROM. To make matters stranger, that .zip file is actually an older version of Froyo, FRF85. If it's an official OTA, it should be for FRF91. The only way that this could happen is that you're already on a more previous version of Froyo (FRF83 and below) and your ROM carries an AT&T signature, which both conditions are impossible based on the info you posted above. Anyways, I strongly advise you not to flash the .zip file to your Desire as it seems the origin is too suspicious and you'll risk bricking your set. Until it is proven otherwise by other Desire users, it's better to be safe than sorry. That's my 2 cent.

If they are going to use the .35/.36 kernel, then there'll be a huge difference in battery performance. I'm using a tweaked .35 RC6 and getting some marvellous battery life. 1 hour on standby and it only deteriorates 1%.


Yeah, Malaysia is unfortunately not on Google's priority list. You can get it through the paid Market if you have access, or you can head over to the Hero thread and look at page 3. LEVI posted the APK there.

Yes, paid market access has nothing to do with the phone OS version. It depends on whether the Telco you're on is cleared by Google to access paid content.

And those with rooted sets, bear this in mind. You might lose root privilege if you update through the OTA. That's if you get it to run it at all. OTAs have this knack of refusing to install if the phone has custom recovery or custom ROMs. If you want the OTA, you might need to revert to stock ROMs and stock recovery. And those with unrooted sets with plans to root, the OTA most likely will carry a newer HBOOT. So, previous rooting instructions may not be applicable anymore. You'll need to wait for the devs to come up with newer rooting methods (which wont take long anyways).

And to all Desire users, have fun with your official FroYo. I hope you guys will get by next week (if HTC doesnt screw up).
