How do we get Swype on an unrooted Android 2.1 phone?

ho-ll: I don't use Advanced Task Killer or any task killer apps, but the alarm is sporadic for me.

Same goes for creating entries under the Calendar - adding more reminders doesn't seem to work. I guess it would be best to test this while watching the phone instead of when I have to rely on it.

i_bony: Firstly the QR Code for Google Open Spot returned a 404 - and I couldn't find it in the Android Market. Add to the fact that GPS is inaccurate indoors, and my office parking lot has no reception (so I can't get a Google Map downloaded) and that all works against the app.

Oh and plus I don't drive, heh.

pluginbaby: I have not seen a Google Nexus One in a non-tech-savvy person's hands. However I went for the SiS free training for the HTC Desire on 17th July 2010... and there were only 3 obviously-tech-savvy-looking people - the others were regular people of a varying demographic.

Have to say though the training wasn't good - all the trainer technician did was show a slideshow on where to find apps (http://htcappz.blogspot.com/) and a brief history on Android versions. We all brought our laptops because the registration page told us to - but we didn't use it at all.

He also claimed that you could send your Legend in and get 2.2 installed by SiS Malaysia under warranty (however, he was obviously not the guy who does it, since he didn't even know what I meant when I said root). He also thinks that going from 2.1 to 2.2 does not void warranty since it's just software (I think we'd better call SiS ourselves and speak to the actual technician in charge). He says it takes about 2-4 hours and is a very complicated process.

I would have rather he showed us how to add widgets, icons, move them about, and use things about Android which are not obvious e.g. Long Press to do the same thing as a Right-click in Windows, or holding down the Home button to see . There were two uncles and one aunty there and I ended up training one of the uncles while the trainer technician attended to the aunty's HTC Legend which was having a problem!

What exactly does Radio mean, in the context of rooting, ROMs and such?

Wow, Facebook when synced properly looks sweet! I am manually syncing for those whose names on Facebook do not match the name in my Google phonebook.

Anyway, what is a radio, in the context of ROMs?

Also, when Android 2.2 comes to us in a Over The Air update, will our phone data be wiped out?

KTCY, thanks! I think that is the clearest explanation of what the images are. I had no idea that there were 4 levels involved!
