guys, if i rooted my phone, and use custom roms, does it mean all 7 homescreens is reset back? i mean according to the ROM la. and if i go back to original rom, all the set up(widgets/programs) are lost?
*

root ur phone = nothing will happen to ur data
flash ur phone with custom rom require u to reset to factory settings + wipe data. This is where all ur apps and data will be gone. This is why I prefer to root my phone and manually customize it myself. Unfortunately my skill not good enough... sad.gif sad.gif

if you're changing between the same version ie eclair to eclair or froyo to froyo you can get away with just wiping all the cache .. did it a few times when changing between different custom roms

interesting... will keep this in mind... but due to RAM and battery life constraints... i still prefer editing the original files within Android /system... hmm.gif

Generally when you're switching ROMs,here's what you should do:-

1) Nandroid backup (in case we screw up or want to revert)
2) TiB backup
3) Flash new ROM
2) TiB restore

Now the ROM will have all your apps and data (and market links).

ok... another question: can we do a manual back up by pulling all the files from /system? hmm.gif

Sure you can. But if you do that you are only backing up the system apps.  wink.gif

If its official ROM from HTC, then yes. Cause i just updated my Desire with the Stock RUU from XDA developer and it wipes out everything smile.gif
*

i don mean flashing from 1 ROM to another ROM... i mean when an update is available from HTC/Google for ur phone... like let's say I'm on android 2.0 and an update of 2.1 is available and my phone automatically download it... after the installation will my data be gone? hmm.gif

can use titanium backup or not? and where do i find nandroid?
*

i found nandroid in the "unrevoked" rooting method in maliqu3's blog...

When I free I will experimenting on editing the system APK files and using the ADB to backup the entire root... hmm.gif
