Looking for a portable amp!

Currently using Shure SRH440 headphones with an iPod Nano 4th gen (may upgrade to a Cowon S9 unless someone can recommend something better)
Needless to say it would be for music listening.
Source would be mostly FLAC and may add some mp3s.
I'll be listening to mostly Rock/Alternative/Acoustic stuff, but some R&B, Electro, Techno etc etc as well. (pretty much almost anything except those commercial pop stuff)
Portability is a must as i'll probably be bringing it around.

Budget around RM400 but i wouldn't mind paying extra if i find it's worth it. biggrin.gif

All I can think of are the Ordnance .22 and Go-vibe Martini.  smile.gif

Hmm.. How about Fiio stuff? like the E7.

Hmm i'll probably end up going to Jaben and try 1 by 1 lol.
Yeah i was reading up on the E7 and the probability of me getting it is now relatively low lol.
But yeah i do find that the bass for my SRH440 is a bit lacking. So an amp that could boost that a bit would be great!
I read that Hippo Box's bass boost is negligible though. Hmm..

Any other suggestions? biggrin.gif

So. aside from the Govibe Martini and the Ordnance .22, is there any other portable amps that can drive a Shure SRH440? hopefully under rm400?

Guys besides an amp, i'm also looking for a music player to use for my Shure SRH440.
Definetely needs FLAC support as my current iPod nano doesn't support FLAC. and it's only 8gb so even if i convert to ALAC i can't put a lot of songs.

Can someone help me decide which of these are the best?
-Cowon S9
-Cowon J3
-Samsung P3
-Samsung Galaxy Player

Currently leaning towards S9 but not sure..

I'm now interested in a USB DAC, below rm400, mostly for listening to FLACs.
any to suggest?
Also, does connecting a DAC to laptop and then connecting to a portable amp increase SQ?

Hmm thinking of upgrading my headphones. Currently using Shure SRH440 but i may use those only for recording purposes. So i want a seperate one for just music listening.

1. Budget= 1k? Slightly more or less also can. Wanna see what options i have.
2. Will be using it on my laptop(possibly with a Wolfson DAC) or my iPod Nano(will probably upgrade to either Cowon J3 or Samsung Galaxy Player in the future) with Hippo Box+ amp.
3. Strictly for music listening.
4. I listen to a bit of everything. (Radiohead, Incubus, Far East Movement, David Guetta, Bring Me The Horizon, Kings of Leon etc)
4. For source, either FLAC or 320kbps mp3s.
5. Prefer closed back because i like isolation, but can look into open if the diff between SQ is big.

What about Beyer Dynamics DT770? What do you like? Bass?

some bass, but not too much. hahaha but my friend already has that soo yeah probably not that. i noticed though that it comes in 80ohm and 250ohm. what's the difference actually? (besides needing an amp)

The award winning AKG K242HD which is the consumer version of the legendary K240 studio headphones.

wow those look nice. how much is that bro?

QUOTE(CoolBoy89 @ Apr 21 2011, 02:01 PM)
Have a look at Denon D2000s. They are good all-rounder headphones.
*
interesting! will definetely have a look. biggrin.gif

thanks for the recommendations!
how bout cheap IEMs? wanna get for the girlfriend. hahah biggrin.gif

1. Budget less than rm150 maybe? lol
2. Will be using with iPhone, so preferrably comes with control talk (volume control and mic)
3. She listens to mainstream stuff. Err Taylor Swift, John Mayer and stuff like that.
4. Source would be mp3s (120-320kbps)
5. If can, looks nice and sounds.. well worth the price i guess lol. you know what actually LOOKS is the priority because i don't think she cares that much on SQ. but if can get both good also, then i can pull her in the audiophile world. biggrin.gif

- Sennheisers PX-100 II
- Mostly for music purposes on my iPod, i travel around long journeys on buses, planes, trains
- Mp3
- Trance/house music most of the time, but i also have R&B hip hop, rock, but mostly Trance and house music
- Headphones, i dun like earphones...i feel uncomfortable wearing earphones though, and also, i SWEAT a lot, so yea, that is an issue as well.
- My budget? well, i'm actually planning to get Beats Pro/Studio by Dr. Dre, but if there are any better suggestions or something cheaper, i might as well take the opinion and check it out?
*
the TMA is much better than the Beats, trust me. I was quite disappointed at the Beats actually. Had quite high hopes for it.

Havent tried marshall headphone yet, but marshall are well known for it amp, mostly use in every jamming studio  nod.gif

Agreed. But Marshall is quite known for their quality (for amps) so maybe the headphones are just as good? Go audition them first!

Any recommendations for IEMs? Wanna get for the girlfriend. ahah

1. Budget less than rm150 maybe? lol (i'm not cheap, i just don't think she'll appreciate an expensive one) tongue.gif
2. Will be using with iPhone, so preferrably comes with control talk (volume control and mic)
3. She listens to mainstream stuff. Err Taylor Swift, John Mayer and stuff like that.
4. Source would be mp3s (120-320kbps)
5. Looks is priority! She's kinda a girly girl.. soo i dunno some colours wouldn't hurt. Sound isn't so much of an issue because i don't think she cares. hahaha.

Well, he did say preferably. Implying that it is better to have one, but don't mind not having one. And looks is priority.
The black and white one looks very good. I might get one as a gift for someone.  tongue.gif  For a girl, the black and pink looks really good.

Some Koss IEM has a mic, but they don't look pretty.
Oooh, I just remembered some Audio Technica ones that looks really girly...but forgot the model.  doh.gif
*
I found the ATH-CK400i. It's red and has control talk and i'm VERY sure my girlfriend would love it!
But it doesn't seem like it's available here. Anyone knows where i can get it?
