If Apple fixes the call reception issue and other issues soon, this will create a huge demand for the white models because they are only available at a later date. People will see the white models as the ones that have all the problems fixed.

This guy started a company designing antennas and here's his take on the Apple iPhone 4:

First Impressions: iPhone 4

Seems fine to him. Also, the USA is a rather big place and outside of dense megalopolise like New York, people live rather spaced out from one another. It's nice to have a lot of space, but it also makes it harder for telcos to make sure every nook and cranny has coverage. If I'm not mistaken, Apple iPhone is locked to AT&T users only for now. It would be interesting to see if Verizon customers also get the same problem with a CDMA iPhone 4.

The iPhone 4 SmartModule

Looks like the antenna expert also agrees that the antenna design might not be such a good idea after all.

I think this will make people look towards the white iPhone 4 set with more interest just to see if Apple makes any changes on them.

What do you mean it gets worse? Either the problem's there or not, right?

If Apple decides to keep the same antenna design for its next iPhone, it will probably adopt the IvySkin look. It reminds me of how they designed their iMac.

Ahh, the long awaited testing of the Apple iPhone 4. Instead of using the bars, he uses download/upload speeds for measurement:

Whoa, they're people going to stay up for the press conference? Staying up for the World Cup is one thing, but you can always read up on the press conference on Saturday...

So what happens after 30 August? Will Apple continue to provide bumpers? Or will they start charging for them?

Either Apple is going to charge for the bumpers, or there will be a second revision that fixes the problem. I think Apple will only fix the problem with next year's iPhone.

And was that YouTube video from actual Taiwanese news (great to see traditional Chinese characters)? Now that is an evil Steve Jobs!

If we have news like that to describe our current politicial situation we would have changed government long ago.

Latest rumors on the iPhone:

1) iPhone 4 bumper to be redesigned. For post-September iPhone?

2) iPhone 5 to be released January 2011. Not likely, but maybe it'll be iPhone 4.5 to address the antenna issues and support for Verizon CDMA.
