is there a way turn off the multitasking?

im having a problem with my 3gs running on iOS4. it just happened today when i want to sync my phone,before was ok only now my phone took forever to sync. anybody know what happen here?
i tried to sync when the battery was 10% until 100% still not yet finish syncing . tried to restart the phone couple of times, still doesn't work. |
