Get your iPhone 4 first. Then try FaceTime and Fring and compare the two with regards to video call quality. Until then, there's nothing much to debate.iPhone 4 and iOS 4 V2, Discussion Thread

Read between the lines. It is probably more of an issue of "Complain much but still getting one, front of the line summore", than bragging rights for being an early adopter. Those who had met Beavis68 knows his character, and to call him out as bad as such, is the antithesis of what he is. The rest are just that, empty drums.
Some of us contributed more than just saucy words, we provided ourselves as being the guinea pig to test and try out these devices with our hard earned money, before you folks later feel safe enough to "jump in" with your money. The least that act would be responded is, some respect. I like this random slogan I've read somewhere: "What have you done today"? More appropriately, "what have you contributed enough to further the advancement of your community today"? I can personally vouch for Beavis's own hard work at providing bulk order for accessories and sim-cutting services, sometimes going out of his way too. The question is , "what have you done" other than typing posts on virtual space? Contribute much? |

QUOTE(mONSTers @ Aug 2 2010, 10:00 AM) a very good reference on the comparison iPhone price around the world. The Australian price is not correct. I did not buy my 32GB iPhone 4 at RM3500 equivalent. The chart maker needs to gets his info straight.http://www.iclarified.com/images/news/10940/37552/37552.png Source: iClarified Obviously, HK has the cheapest unlocked iPhone follow by the SG (not much diff) |

QUOTE(andyz @ Aug 9 2010, 10:21 AM) http://www.geekersmagazine.com/iphone-4-price.html As I have pointed out before, that chart is incorrect for Australia. And probably for other countries as well. I did not buy my iPhone 4 32B in Australia at that price, and that chart certainly makes it look like I paid premium for it. Despite being RM300-400 more than the cheapest in HK or Singapore, stocks are relatively ready at the Apple Stores rather than having to go through telcos with the need to sign up for a plan, or waiting 3 weeks for online orders to ship.Apple iPhone 4 has been released to most of the international markets. iPhone 4 is sold for the cheapest price in Hong Kong along with Singapore touching price ground as low as €500 for a 16 GB unlocked iPhone and €590 for a 32 GB unlocked iPhone whereas iPhone prices in Italy up to €659 for a 16 GB unlocked iPhone and €779 for a 32 GB unlocked iPhone. iOS4.0.2 is ready for download now. Updating as we speak. Changelog mentions fixing the malicious PDF hole used to jailbreak iPhones on previous version.

Good question. Let me list mine. 1 - Foursquare. I let folks that I trust, know where I am. It is a social networking app where it allows you to check-in to places and claim virtual ownership in the form of a "Mayor" when you have "checked-in" at a particular place often enough. This is how I found out where my close friends are and 4 times already met up with them because they are in the vicinity. Foursquare also merit badges to unique check-ins like checking in into Starbucks, you unlock the "Barista" badge, at 5 different airports, you get the "JetSetter" badge, etc. CNN took part in this during the World Cup event by providing exclusive badges when you check in at match venues. In US and Australia, they've taken this to the next step by awarding free coffee(Starbucks) or lunch(Wagamama) should you check in and maintain your "Mayorship" at the place. It encourages folks to come out and visit these places. 2 - Twitter. You use Whatsapp, I use Twitter. It's the SMS of the Internet. Tie your Foursquare with Twitter, and your location is autotweeted when you check-in. 3 - Pulse Mini. I read news. Tech news. To keep up with the goings-on. I subscribe to them because tech news don't lie like political propagandas on Malaysiakini or its other equivalent (I hate politics). Pulse allows me to read them in one centralised place. I also have its big brother equivalent on the iPad. 4 - Layar. It takes social networking, location positioning and pasted them onto your live camera view to allow different interactions depending on what layer (hence, Layar?) you turned on. Tweets nearby? Turn the Tweet layer on, turn around until you face those tweets and read. Search for the closest MRT/LRT station by simply turning and facing the direction indicated on the camera view. Best foods, restaurants, bar, nightlife, it all comes to life depending on how detailed the switched-on superimposed layers are. Those are what I can think of right now. I'm huge on Foursquare and Twitter, but I suggest being careful on who you allow to follow you on them. |

At Apple Store The Lourve Paris now. They're selling the iPad Cam Kits in the open now, not behind the counter anymore.
Anybody with an iPhone 4 who wants to try FaceTime to Apple Store Paris The Lourve, PM me within this 30 minutes. Again , zero stock iPhone 4 here. No accessories other than the iPhone 4 dock. Everything else are old 3G[S] cases. Funny how they're selling screen protectors here in the wake of Apple's policy against using screen protectors. Similar outlook here at Apple Store L'Opera Rue Halévy Paris. One week waiting list for iPhone 4. More well stocked accessories than in The Lourve. They do have Universal Dock Adapters in 3 piece pack for the iPhone 4, the new Battery Charger and the iPhone 4 dock. iPad accessories, as usual, now selling in the open. |

QUOTE(Christopher7 @ Aug 19 2010, 05:00 PM) Facetime on Iphone 4 I've FaceTimed with Beavis, KSC_3688, Harmeet and Yuvanesh, across the wide divide, between KL-Sydney, KL-Brisbane, KL-Tokyo, KL-Taipei, KL-Los Angeles and KL-Paris. Depending on the connection speed/bandwidth, FaceTime is very much a useful tool for us to communicate with each other (for free, since most of these FaceTime sessions are at the Apple Stores, and they provide free Internet connection) and check what items are worth purchasing while we're out and about. I believe Harmeet has tried FaceTime from Pakistan to KL, not too bad from his impression. Local FaceTime sessions are always faster and lag-free, this is proven during the last Gathering and with Welwitchia whom I met at MacStudio recently.is it possible talk to someone using FaceTime in say other country since it's free? or stil need to charge? |

QUOTE(starlight @ Aug 26 2010, 03:37 PM) May i ask where can i get my sim cutted? I'm heading down to lowyat tomorrow. Any place around can do me the favour? If it is today, I can probably help as I have the micro-sim cutter. But if it is tomorrow, it's gonna be tough since a few of us are making a day trip down to Singapore.After cut the sim can still be used by my other phone right? As iphonee still need tak takes few days After you've hole-punched your normal sim into micro-sim, you can purchase a micro-to-normal sim adapter to reuse it back on other normal phones. Contact Beavis68 for details. |

This is a requote of my post on this very thread itself, post number #2170. I wish people would read up more on their thousand Ringgit purchases rather than just simply buy and ask retarded questions like these. It is in the pinned thread, it is repeatedly answered everywhere else in the forum (just do a Search if you dont believe me) and God only knows how many times I had already answered this kind of questions. QUOTE(xtrifor @ Aug 30 2010, 05:30 AM) @stringfellow Nope, sorry , no free pass. I don't go around buying my first DVD player and ask why there's no picture when I turn it on. I read the manual when that happens. I read the manual for which cables to plug into and which channel to turn on to. Same case here. Apple did not employ anyone here, or its Genius bar staff for that matter, questions with commonly known answers. Some things, after its fourth iteration, are common knowledge. Even if that DVD player I mentioned before, is my first one, I wouldn't dare simply turn it on and assume that everything would work based on what I "think" it should be. I read the manual. Or make sure I read and know everything there is needed to know before I bring that matter to the attention of others. Probably to avoid from making a fool of myself. sorry, this is my first time using iphone device and i nvr tot that the 'speaker' actually mic. I'm sure in your line of work, with your job "working as computer technician formatting PC and lappy", you'd be reading instructions and procedures laid out on a specific manner on some for of printed text, wouldn't you? @DG, I raise you "one dinner meal" for the next idiot who ask another common knowledge/common sense question. I predict that it will be, from the look of things here, that it would be in the span of one month,or if I'm lucky, less than that. If it didn't happen, I belanja you dinner. @nokia2003, Score indeed. I've reset the timer for the "next facepalming question" to be asked, care to bet when that is gonna happen? We can wager meals or Starbucks coffee if you like. We can bet on "stupid answers to stupid questions" too, I'd imagine the lines exchanged between them would be straight from the movie "Dumb and Dumber" This post has been edited by stringfellow: Aug 30 2010, 06:12 AM |

QUOTE(xtrifor @ Aug 30 2010, 07:53 AM) @stringfellow Nobody's "raging" "laio", just pointing out the "white elephant in the room". Checking out the instruction booklets, especially the Fingertips booklet provided, it points to :-before i asked here, i've checked the instructions (both in english and chinese) and finger tips inside the iphone 4's box and there is no information about it. nvrmind, no need to go on RAGE MODE on me laio... lesson learned ady... huhu... QUOTE ....you can learn even more about iPhone at www.apple.com/iphone On the Learn More section inside the booklet, it again points to that link above. And it even provides the iPhone User Guide links to view or download, and guess what, it points to the relatively same info as the one in the pinned thread here. VEterans would be fine to skim through without reading because they know what components and parts are on their iPhone, but newbies like you, it doesn't make sense to get to know your iPhone before you use it? Funny how some people think that once they've held the iPhone in their hands that they think they know everything about it already. QUOTE(benny888 @ Aug 30 2010, 10:23 AM) These scenario of commonly FAQ is also rampant in other windows mobile and android forums. Most mods do a verge good job putting up a good summary of product features, links to other site, FAQ, etc in the post 1 or 2. Problem is most new users never bother to even read these first posts. Forget about even asking them to refer to manual. +1 on the bolded part. It seems to be the cancerous problem with these people, they're so used to getting their answers fast, they turn to the forum and expect the same treatment here. Funny thing is, there is an equally fast way to get the same information: Google. In fact, if he even bother to Google the very same question he asked , "my iphone 4 left speaker sounds so slow than my right one..is it normal?", the answer he would get from that search result, third from the top, would have already got him his answer, and only in 0.21 seconds. Plus it avoids making himself looking like an idiot asking in public forums like here. Oh well, like you say, "kids these days". I not that old myself, and I thank God I don't fall victim to fits of laziness like this.Before I even buy any new notebook, smartphone I will always research about it in the appropriate forum. It is now so convenient. I will download the manual if available and read it first. This is a problem and a growing one I noticed especially with the younger generation. They expect instant answers, they face a issue they jump into the forum and ask. I see same problem with some of my staffs in my work experience past 35 years. There is lack of initiative and unwillingness to research for solutions. All they want is instant answer. Not suprising such staffs of mine rarely get the needed promotions due to lack of initiatives. |

@yuvanesh
I think the next time another person ask that same question, we just post that picture. I gave up asking them to read up on the manual. |
