Tips to Improve Engine Performance

Minor mod (increase acceleration)
1. Remove air filter. (Penang people can find me, FOC)
2. Reset carburetor air-fuel setting. (Penang people can find me, FOC)
3. Set valve tapette to 10 IN and 15 OUT. - RM30 labour charge @ New Bee Hock motor, Penang.
4. Change to 15-40 with 415 chain. - RM100

After changing racing CDI >> top speed for 4th gear can add about 10 - 20kph.

*Note* The above data is an estimation of potential top speed for each gear, and may vary from bike to bike.


Carburetor General Tuning Guideline:

A. Change the idle air-fuel mixture setting 1st.
B. If still not satisfied, change the needle position.
C. If none of the needle position is good, change the jettings.


A. Idle air-fuel mixture settings
1. Air screw set at about 2.5 turns for stock airflow. Modified exhaust + air filterless can use 2 turns.
2. Idle rpm increase a little more than normal.

B. Needle setting
1. There are 3 ticks on the needle jet.
2. The lowest tick will give us good FC, as it limits more petrol to flow from mainjet @ half throttle
3. The highest tick will give us bad FC, as it let more petrol flows from mainjet @ half throttle.

However, highest tick does not mean best acceleration. If too much petrol flows into the venturi, the mixture will become too rich. This will decrease the power at high rpm. So, try different needle clip position and feel which one has the best results.

C. Jet size setting
1. Change mainjet to #107.5 (stock #105)
2. Change pilotjet to #22.5 (stock #20). If there is no performance increase, then stick back to #20.
3. Change mainjet to #110 + pilotjet #22.5. <-- this should be a good pair.

Anything more than #110 mainjet will make the engine feels heavy, bcoz the mixture becomes too rich.


Disc Brake Tuning Meteorology

The theory covers the relationship between the total areas of the brake pots (Note, its area not count), brake pads, masterpump, the rigidity of the brake hose and the property of the brake pads. The point of improvement is to look for the limit of the system and upgrade it.

1. Single pot is less prone to uneven brake force compared to multiple pots when in case one of the pot jams.

2. Changing the brake rotor is a start. But if you do not see improvements, that means rotor is not the limitation, and you need to change other things to do a stopee (Nose brake).

3. Change brake hose to steel braided, so it is less likely to expand and eat up the brake budget. Try this, wrap ur hands around standard brake hose, and press the brake you will feel it expand. Anymore you press also won't increase braking performance.

4. Change to DOT5 brake oil (normal 1 can, but easily overheat. I go hill run for >1 hr, DOT5 is mandatory)

5. Change brake pads, I use Ferodo imported by Racing Boy. Ask for original ones, one set front about RM30~40. You can see more copper strands on the pads. Other good pads use metal strands so u can see silverly metal strands.

6. Must stiffen front fork absorber, and add a stabilizer bar. Use 15W-20 fork oil, make it about 25% stiffer than stock. 20W-50 fork oil is too stiff bcoz the oil is too not lean enuf, the bound and rebound SUX, I feel like riding on a horse. The traction sux too, bcoz front tyre can hardly grip on the road when going through uneven road (esp penang road).

7. Use ABS device (about RM100) <-- optional

That CDI is for DRAG purposed, not suitable for on road. And it doesn't suport TPS.. And the firing angle can be program using laptop to suit different tracks. So better safe the money for more road friendly CDI than waste money on this kinda competition level CDI which not mean for everyday use ... And BTW that CDI is damn huge Like a mini laptop.

Reporting my gas mileage after air filter cleaning: 160km for RM8.
This is so much much better than before, barely reach 130km.

Alex!! where u buy ur air filter cleaner ??? i try to find 1 but cant get it ....

Mine's a 'mushroom' filter, no brand one. The filter is covered in dried petrol. I just used laundry soap.

Don't change CDi if u dont wan to mod ur engine... Change liao over-rev causes ur engine life span shorter. If u r unlucky valve spring patah, some more gv u rev higher abit also no use ur bike is stil 135cc, it wont gv u much power... No power + shorten engine life span = 0, so better save da RM300++ for other mods... (just my opinion) If u wan try, try la but dun regret Calvin wan to sell his Kitty Racing CDi RM200 who wan it let me noe lol

CDI got very good effect. It doesnt matter the engine can go beyond 10krpm or not. It boosts a lot of power even from midrange onwards. However, the condition is you have to get the engine tuned very well mechanically first. Carburetor, exhaust pipe and porting changes are part of mechanical tuning. Engine size doesnt matter here.

do u even suspect its fake? there are lots of fake brembo caliper and yoshi pipes around

When my brake caliper got stolen last time, I found those Brembo calipers. Black, red, gold; 2 pot, 4 pot etc... costing around 80-100 a piece with free brake pads. Darn fakes I think. I wouldn't mind trying one out just to see, but I doubt much difference.

I'd spend more time on the brake pads making sure I buy the right one suitable for daily use... Now I still using original replacement. Got a few Ferodo spares... Racing Boy is the dealer, and this is supposedly good brand.

Rextor support TPS and have the fan socket, it also have TPS tuner. while kitti X box doesnt have any of this function. And btw using kitti also u need to use 2 CDI ( stock + kitti ) if u want the the fan to run. XD

nvr see the max BHP and torque figure. It is a big mistake. they only start dyno from 7k to 12k rpm, and the power above 9k starts to drop. Usually dyno will do from 3k or 4k up to top rev, I guess they have something to hide below 7k rpm.

Added on June 23, 2010, 11:45 pmhey bro... i also just realised... now i get wat ur trying to say.. if i not wrong.. it means that low rpm like 2k until 5k rpm... the bike totally sux.. stock lc can outrun it from standstill... but then once rpm hits near 6k or 7k.. power only boost up... means its almost like a turbo lag la... low rpm no power... until certain rpm.. power boost up..

bad bad bike.. if ur riding in traffic...

As for TT, supposedly this weekend got one. We've planned for once every month on the last weekend. I have a must-go event on Sat morning, but I think the others here are eager to have the TT...

since it's been raining for the past 2 TTs, i think this weekend weather should be clear...

dyno was run starting at 6000 rpm due we dont want to get too much data on before 6000 rpm.. it can be done but the graphic and hp, torque the time log would be so long and wont fit one screen.. not because it sucks.. just buy the kit and try it urself hehehe..

a powerful yet reliable engine can be done, as long as you got enough cash.

change cam sure will risk engine if the mechanic dunno how to set your air-fuel.

If you want a reliable engine with great performance, basically u can't modify the current LC engine. You need to change the whole engine. Its because the original engine parts can only tahan small amount of horsepower.

Cubprix bikes can produce great horsepower with small engine CC because the whole engine is rebuilt. From what I know, the engine itself cost more than RM10k, and able to tahan a few races only if we always go all out. I assume it can last pretty long if you are just riding normally on the street.

160kph on LC meter can be done, but 160kph on GPS is a big risk, I'd rather change to superbike.

130kph should b fine, 130++ is pretty tough.
I would suggest max of 120kph on GPS (150kph on LC meter) to have better reliability and street riding feel.
