I would go with navy, because both the Chinese and Western cultures seem to agree it works best on a man.

And I would get it done devastatingly well: Do one up in muslin before going for the real thing. Get the yoke to lie on your shoulder smoothly, a clean chest, slightly tapered at the sides, get the back to hang well, get narrow tapered sleeves which are short (like on suits). I was told the mandarin collar is difficult to do well, so you'll want an accomplished suit tailor to do it. Never let the shoulder seam to droop beyond the deltoids.

Get real silk for this. Thick deep lustrous navy silk. And smoked MOP buttons. At least 18 stitches/inch. Have the cuffs invisibly reinforced.

There is no reason to make yet another BM. Make a standard-setting BM! Show the masses they actually have no taste.

Added on June 22, 2010, 10:05 amThe BM has always been an anti-fit garmet. That's because most people do not understand fit. Make a BM that is ALL about fit.

You might want to have some of your RTW altered to as good a fit as possible. Then use that as a template for your bespoke BM, with better materials and little tweaks.

Another idea: a linen BM. Those rayon/polyester stuff they typically use are terrible at wicking away sweat and are damn hot. A navy linen BM, carefully fitted with proper front and back balances, smooth yoke, and sublime mandarin collar should blow away the roof.

A wise decision to make for your first baju melayu. If I am in your shoes, a little modification to its tailoring style should be fine but hopefully not too much - as personally, I am not certain the effect it would have on my Malay peers' families if I suddenly show up in a traditional costume that looks somewhat different from what they came to know unless I know fully well that it will not display any disrespect towards them or their culture. Although, I remain optimistic that Malaysians with their closely-knitted races have good capacity for acceptance.

It's surprisingly easy to lose fat. You just need to know how.

Yes, you are right. I did loose some weight. But i would like to do it slowly rather than going gung ho and loose so much at one time like a diet rabid squirrel.  laugh.gif i would like to loose a lot of weight fast. But my job and the eating times are tough to adjust. But i have been watching what i eat more carefully now.

oh yeah, of all the excitement, i only took pictures of 1 fabric store. Damn!!!

I know you are doing it wrong simply by the language you use. You do not want to lose weight. You only want to lose the fat. And it is formulaic and easy. No hours on the threadmill or such nonsense.

Everyday, millions of weightlifters do what they call a "cut". "Cutting". As opposed to "bulking".

It's crazy: All them of them go from 20+% fat to single digit fat within months, then gain fat again as they bulk, then lose the fat again. What do they keep? Muscle. However, nobody in the general population knows about this. They go on threadmills and such and buy stupid supplements from the stall in front of the Carrefour checkout counter. Stupid OSIM stuff. How stupid.

Go read it up man. It's a very simple formula. Everybody who goes to the gym does it. Go read the Bodybuilding section at LYN. It's the easiest thing in the world. It's building muscle that is difficult.

1. Eat a tiny caloric deficit. About 300 kcal less per day.
2. Consume 1.8g/kg (of bodyweight) of protein per day.
3. Do something that raises the base metabolic rate. Some people lift weights a certain way for this. Other do HIIT, which is short, fun and painless.

Do it until one morning you wake up and see all your abs. All 6 of them.

Wait. You are 90 kg and you think you are getting results?

It is exactly steady-state aerobic activity that most people do to lose "weight" -- with lackluster results that have no relation to the time expenditure.

I've pointed out to you a far superior method -- it requires no supplements, and takes 20 mins 3X a week with only a pair of jogging shoes, or swimming trunks, or a skipping rope. But above all, it is about the formula. Recall the 3 points above. Deadly effective and far easier than cycling an hour 3X a week.

Added on July 5, 2010, 9:01 amOn second thought I would discourage you from sprinting or rope skipping at your present weight. They would destroy your knees and your backbone. Swimming HIIT-style is great.

You don't actually own a handmade sampin. You merely take care of it for the next generation.

Linen is not stiff like cotton used for chinos. U have to own linen shirts to know. Linen looks hard because the fabric is coarse. So when stress is put on the cloth, the weaves does not slide against each other like most fabric does. Its like everything tries to stay in shape. In fact during wear linen holds its shape much more better than most fabrics. Only light coloured songket will show the skin. The dark colored ones won't.

If you ask me, i think its closest to songket. But its probably a bad comparison. A linen baju really looks good. I think Granoff would display it till raya. Go check it out.

WTF when I told you to be a pioneer and get a linen BM made you made all sorts of noises about it being way out there. And here you are now extolling the virtues of the linen BM.

Next year design yourself The Ultimate BM. It should feel like wearing nothing and make teenage girls weak in the knees, causing their legs to buckle under them, especially when you are close, placing their mouths at the appropriate level.

I think that Granoff BM to be very much to my idea of the ideal BM. The colour is not fuchsia pink (don't laugh, I've seen it before), it is linen, and it even has a pocket square of enormous proportions.

They might actually do BMs better than western suits.
