First off, there's no true superior tank. Each tank has their own playstyle, and its up to you to choose which one. Just fool around with each countries' tank until you find your fit. Note that Tier I-III plays very differently from Tier IV onwards.

From the sounds of it, you're actually talking about medium tanks, since that is their job. A true LT is only used to scout and maybe to take out opposing SPGs, especially on high tier games.

tier 1-3 are very fast game. the tank move speed fast, gun fire rate high. rule very simple, jz go out and shot

starting on tier 5, u will find u cant simply shot like low tier, u need to aim for weak spots of the tanks to penetrate the armor. besides that, the guns characteristic are shown, some gun with high damage, but low reload speed, u have to fire, and fall back to cover waiting to reload,
tanks characteristic shows up, some tank with weak armor, but super accuracy gun, for sniping, some tanks with thick armor and big but low accuracy gun, suitable for close or mid range combat, and the game pace become slower. and tanks have their role in the team. if ur team unable to play properly, often u will find ur team swipe out by enemy team easily, while enemy team only take little damage

Tier I-IIIs (and sometimes IV) are made up exclusively of light tanks. (US and British meds excepted. Even then, they are just light tanks in all but name.) Basically, armour don't come into play here. Just point and shoot and you're almost guaranteed to penetrate something. The side with the most accurate players wins.

Tier IV is where you start encountering true heavy tanks (B1, AMX 40, Matilda) and where armour starts to make a difference. Most heavy tanks start at Tier V (T1 Heavy, KV-1, Churchill 1) and the roles of each tank become more clearly differentiated. The game's playstyle becomes radically different at this point, where heavy tanks are expected to lead the push and brute force their way through lines, mediums to support heavies, lights to help scout, TDs to snipe off heavy tanks and SPGs to wreck havoc on enemy tanks.

i struggle a lot during my early days, PZ38na always team with high tier, and grinding stock Pz4 also struggle
my score about 980 +- like that only
leopard line is scout tank, most of time u will find urself team with high tier match, u hardly to damage those tank, only can run run run, hide hide hide, spot spot spot.  1 or 2 shots from those tanks, u die
and it's kinda hard to grind from leopard to VK2801, my leopard only have 20k exp so far, need 26k exp to unlock VK2801
