It's easier said that done for Fed to gain back the #1 spot. Starting from Madrid, he has lost a whole bunch of points. Losing to Rafa in Madrid, knocked out from the French Open in the quarter final then now again ousted in the quarter final at Wimbledon. All these three tournaments are the ones which Fed won last year. That's why he's dropping to #3. Going to the US Open, Fed has to defend points from Cincinatti which he won and also points from the final of US Open last year. I don't see him getting back the #1 ranking this year.
