Any of you played Golden Axe in the past? Back in those days, shady arcade centers are almost equivalent to the cyber-cafes of today & that was where I got acquainted with this masterpiece (OK, I'm an uncle). Why did I bring this up? Well, you can now get it for free but there's a time limit so hurry up & claim yourself a copy!

1. Go to http://www.gamersgate.com/sega-giveaway (If you don't have a GamersGate account, then create 1 NAO!)

2. Enter this code once, depending on what day you decide to get the game registered to your account.
Thursday 16th: GIVE-SEGA-GAXE-F8H43
Friday 17th: GIVE-SEGA-GAXE-32LN2
Saturday 18th: GIVE-SEGA-GAXE-96PDB

3. Shed manly tears as you recall back those days when your mom, armed with a cane, stormed the arcade center to "retrieve" you. biggrin.gif

Shogun: Total War series for USD7.46 is a bit steep considering that the game is really really old.
*
Yeah. Can't really expect them to have all the games at the lowest price. biggrin.gif Still, it's a tad but surprising that the price for Mass Effect & Dragon Age series in GamersGate are actually lower compared to Steam. I'm not complaining though; it's a good improvement to prevent Steam from monopolizing the DD market.

Downloading Gothic 4 from Gamers Gate at the moment.

Slightly faster than Steam, a lot faster than GOG.

Where is Gamers Gate saving my download to?
*
Err... it depends on the directory you've entered. Can I confirm if you're downloading the downloader client or the game itself? GamersGate is slightly confusing in the sense that the first download you initiated is actually to download the downloader client.

Let's say you want the game file to be downloaded into E: directory, what you need to do is to move the downloader client into the E: directory & run it. The client will then download the game files into a GamersGate Temporary Folder in E: directory. Once the game files download is completed, you can move BOTH the downloader client (it's also an authentication client to get the installation started) & the GamersGate Temporary folder to the computer / directory you want the game to be installed. This is useful if you download the game in your office, copy them into your external HDD & bring 'em back for installation.

I'll recommend that you change the folder name into something else for each game & burn a copy for future installation. Let's say you bought 5 GamersGate game, download the first game, install it, rename the temporary folder as Game A & save it somewhere else. Repeat the same for the subsequent 4 games.

Currently the downloader client is in My Documents\Downloads

The game is being downloaded there.

Can I move the game once it's done from there to someother drive?
*
Yup, you can. Just move both the downloader client & the GamersGate Temporary Folder to the drive you wanted the game to be installed on once the download is completed.

Will move Gothic 4 once its done.

Gonna download the rest as soon as possible.

Remember to rename the GamersGate Temporary Folder once the download is completed for each game. You wouldn't want to have a few games residing in the same folder, do you? unsure.gif

I "think" it still need Steam even you buy it on GG no?

I thought GG will give you the key and you then have to activate it on Steam

Like they are also selling ETW which is DEFINITELY Steam only, I also think the mention in the Shogun 2 page of "Note: This product requires a 3rd party download and account" shows that
*
That's right. You'll get the keys to activate the game in Steam. I'll send them a tweet to double confirm.

I am quite skeptical to buy Steamwork games from other Digital Distributors since Valve is quite sticky with where we get our Steamwork games from.

Yup, it's confirmed that you can HAVE to activate the game in Steam.

I'm a little disappointed with GG with that interview... From the past, they always viewed Steam as merely being another service to theirs and were for the most part, very friendly and cordial with them (Unlike Stardock and Impulse). It's disheartening to see them proclaim that Steam is only #1 because of retail sales (WTF moment) and that Steam copies their sales prices.

I like them both for different reasons (Steam for accessibility and GG for being client free) and never felt the need to laud one over the other. I'll still buy games from either service based on price and I think they both cater to different kinds of buyers. There's more than enough room for both to co-exist instead of having to fight it out for the number 1 spot.

Stardock's comments on Steam made me ignore their service for the last few years (On principle really). I hope GG doesn't continue to do the same.
*
Perhaps the hostility stems from the incident where GG - joined along with D2D & ImpulseDriven - boycotted the sale of Modern Warfare 2 due to Steamworks bundling? They made it pretty clear that they have no issue with Activision so it's Steam that they have a grudge with.

I think they've kind of gotten over that (Since GG even sells Steamworks games now). I think they've mellowed a bit since GG and Impulse are/have come up with their own Steamworks kind of service (Minus the lock-in of course, to not sound hypocritical). But in an interview with GG about a year back, they did genuinely sound like they liked Steam, and instead of competing directly with them, instead focus on offer other features that Steam may not have (Which is the way it should be... Compete through diversity rather than trying to be the leader of the pack)
*
Yeah, I remember reading that somewhere too but let's face it, that's the nature of competition. Today the 2 of them may lavish praises on each another & tomorrow, you see them bickering to no end. biggrin.gif

Another possible factor that I just recalled. Remember the survey conducted by NPD which revealed that Steam was sitting on top of the digital download chart & GamersGate was nowhere to be seen? The same CEO here wasn't too happy either.

Anyway, I found another article dating all the way back to 2009 where Mr. CEO poked at Steam too so I guess this is not something new. biggrin.gif
