Nice post on the installation guide there Charcoal! rclxms.gif I'll update it in the first post when I have the time.

Note for those who are unaware: for Cyanogen install, wipe data/fac reset only during first install. Installing subsequent updates does not require a data reset, unless u wanna lose ALL ur data tongue.gif

Also, for those who use LauncherPro in CM6 and experience the frequent reload of the homescreen, try moving the app to the /system partition and delete the one on /data (using ADB or Root explorer) then reboot ur phone. It works for me. Tried it yesterday and zero homescreen reload since biggrin.gif

Dont need to flash GOT. The latest Cyanogen already has the latest GOT 2.2.1 built in. Basically Cyanogen = GOT 2.2.1 + Cyanogen Mods and bug fixes

Nice guide. rclxms.gif
For step 10, need to see which model of Milestone. Like mine have to use power + x button to enter recovery.

And actually no need nandroid backup, coz it will just backup the stock rom, no additional apps or user data will be backup. I try recover b4, damn, all my data gone.. doh.gif
You should put guide for data backup, such as sms and apps.

Nandroid backup should include apps & data as well, I've tried it before. It works by "copying & pasting" everything including settings etc. Only thing that don't work properly is that the time will change. Maybe u didn't use the backup all option?

before moving: /data/app/com.fede.launcher-2.apk
after moving: /system/app/com.fede.launcher-2.apk

Ok I've noticed some reloads now, but only after I use a memory intensive app, like 3D Gallery & certain games. Still, it's much less than before

Vignette has some nice features but crippled trial version and it hung on me a few times during use. Camera360 easy to use and allows full sized pix, only annoying ad screen at start-up.

Note for some others: free Skyfire browser app will probably be enough for you for most flash video sites. You won't get full screen but OK until we get 2.2 flash.

Ex-Milestone user here... just dropped mine yesterday and someone took it cry.gif cry.gif cry.gif

Although my Milestone restarts a lot, Motorola service center did a bad job servicing my ex-phone; I think I will still be a Milestone user (Milestone 2 perhaps?) in the future. I never hoped for anything. Just ... I hope the fella who took my phone will get hit by a garbage truck and run over by a bus. Enjoy my phone u &*%#(*)$(@*()%%()#@@$@_%(@*()(%*#()$*()@@)_()_^((@(_)(_$@*()*$@!!!!! AAAARRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!! &)(*&@$*U(U*(KLCMSMKLVNIKSIJJFL(O)IQED(PJIOJNKIL!!!!

Hi everyone. I've been a milestone user for 5 months now.

I wish someday motorola will unlock our bootloader. With their signature on this bootloader the community have to make a workaround to make custom ROM possible. Great works for them smile.gif

I was sick the other day but had to work so I forced myself to go out. I think I dropped my phone when I was going out from my car... =( The worst thing is the photos of cheques I collected which I took photo of using my Milestone...

I admit I am STUPIDDD that it never occur to me to install any sort of security software... I was so obsessed with downloading games rather than that. So hope the others Android user will take this as a lesson as well...

Charcoal's step works if you are upgrading from 2.0 to CM6 . If you are upgrading from 2.1 to CM6, there's one missing step at the beginning. I too was stuck at the same place you were until googling further.

Here's the guide
http://android.modaco.com/content/motorola...and-root-guide/

Basically, it's missing the first step, which is to downgrade your sbf BEFORE flashing the vulnerable recovery file using RSD Lite . I choose this SBF which works
https://rsddownload.motorola.com/download/S...Wp2a_1FF.sbf.gz

After that, you can continue following charcoal's steps

as a milestone user, we are hijacking its bootloader in its very early stage (before it loads its original kernel -> booting (loading M logo)).
u have to make sure that your milestone didn't boot its kernel after flashing vulnerable recovery.

to be spesific, when you flash vulnerable recovery (vr) using RSDlite, it sure will reboot itself. while rebooting, you have to get in to recovery mode as soon as possible before M logo appears. if you can't then you have to flash vr again.

hope it helps.
