TM will start rolling out service only early next year. Now full swing infra deployment is going on in Sabah. Specially high demand and upmarket areas.

TM will only lose money if there are other HSBB competitors to take up the slack and lock in customers.
Right now if there is no Unifi service you just have to wait for Unifi. sad.gif

Well, before my office had Unifi, we had YES. So, TM wasn't making any money from us for broadband then. Plus these days, maxis and p1 will also offer services on TM's fiber. I would have preferred maxis hsbb.

How about in Perak?

We're just less than 200km from the Klang Valley.

Yes has limited qouta.
And as you pointed out , Maxis and P1 is riding on TMs fiber.
So, next to no impact for TM really with regards to hsbb services.

I can understand why they are targetting Sabah.

Hopefully if a new Government takes over Perak hope they'll listen to the rakyat needs once again.

We were actually quite happy with YES. We don't finish our monthly allocation and they give free calls. Don't know why my bosses were brainwashed by unifi salesman.
TM needs a lot of subscribers to break even on equipment cost. Why spend all the money just to utilize it 10%? I think they have spent in excess of 1b that they will take years to recuperate. The more subscribers, the faster.

TM shouldn't have been allowed to operate both wholesale and retail hsbb.
It's uncompetitive and restricts competition that would have resulted in cheaper and faster rollout of services.

i believe tm is going to make it's money one way or another.
even if they don't do retail, the will still be the monopoly on wholesale. you can probably say that the fiber should be given to someone else but the fiber uses tm's underground ducts and cables. they certainly won't give another company permission to access their manholes. Even if they do, they would ask for compensation. for another company to put new poles and dig up new trenches would cost way more.

btw, i support your statement but it's not as simple as you think. No one's going to a business unless there's significant guaranteed returns.

Isn't Ipoh Garden presently covered already?

The other places in Ipoh which they pulled direct fibre cable presently is to the Mentri Besar's Residence, Istana Kinta, Kedai Telekom in Ipoh central and Pasir Puteh Telephone exchange.

I think there's a huge demand along the Pasir Puteh Road stretch from nearby upcoming hotels, AEON Station 18 Mall, electronic street and housing communities.

We are RIGHT in the middle of all the suburbs in Ipoh South of Pusat Bandar sandwich between Menglembu and Gunong Rapat.
To the South East of Pasir Puteh is the supposed Cyber City now abandoned and all focus is now shifted to Meru Raya in the North West.

Well, I'm not Unifi staff so I don't really know what's happening. What I do know is that Tasek exchange has one of the highest streamyx subscribers in the entire Malaysia. That's what the streamyx fella told me last time. Maybe that's why they are concentrating on that area. A lot of Ipoh Garden has not been covered.

You sure? Not Ipoh Central?
The reason why they are avoiding Ipoh Central is because of the huge investments involved replacing all the copper cables in the ground, the big mess of sunken doodles that have been there probably for ages. It's going to cost as much as how they wired up KL.
All those old colonial buildings and ancient cables. They are called brown field areas.

Have you seen MSAN large cabinets(FTTC) lined up in total of 3 to 4 in a row(labelled Vxxxx) under one stretch just side by side metres apart? You can find them in Greentown and on Jalan Pasir Putih Main Road.

That'll tell you the demand of Steamyx services in those areas.

What you say about Ipoh Central is just your own opinion or you heard from tm technician?

I see a lot of new white boxes around Ipoh Garden. I've also seen new boxes in the town area. These boxes should be for unifi as the area has already been covered via direct copper. There's no need for new fiber boxes in the area.
