Still a long way before it is released though, isn't it? Was rumored to be ready by 2012. But this looks promising, am really looking forward to see how many races we can play. And hopefully it is P2P too.

Looks amazing and seems more like an action game than MMO RPG.
Might give this a try as my first MMO. |

Well, if it is every race for itself, we should have as many factions as races.

I understand that both Daemon and Chaos Space Marine are categorised under Chaos, but they both require different methods of play. I'm sure that if we have the Chaos gods, there will some differences in the talent/skill trees. Possibly something like deity worshiping will give us different bonuses according to the different gods.
I wonder how Tyranids, Necrons and Tau will fit into the picture. |

Yar, Daemons can be independent army in the tabletop.
I could see them covering the "basics" with Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, Orks and Eldar as the starting race, might be stretching resources to provide more at first. But after that depends how they handle the races and classes. And I think it would be better if they don't follow the "Order/Destruction" thing of Warhammer where the races are grouped with each other depending if they are "good" or "evil" Warhammer 40K should be a huge free for all in my opinion, it's not uncommon at all for all the above to fight among themselves anyway (especially Orks...) |

I think that should be able to work... provided the Devs can pull it off...
Planetside itself had 3 factions fighting it out and things can get really hairy and intense when 3 sides are fighting each other trying to gain control over a Base... However, having the option to join Order and Destruction could be good as well.. that means, there will be - Order - Destro - Free for All That means there will be fighting between Order vs Destro Order vs Free (individual races) Destro vs Free (individual races) Free (individual races) vs Free (individual races) it's really complicated Individual races means.. If you're abhumans, you can opt to either join the Space Marines or Chaos Space Marines. Either which you can opt to fight other Races based on your affiliation and class. I.E. There are sub-categories of Eldars called Outcasts who are basically pirates and mercs. As that class you fight for something else... being a merc, maybe either side can recruit you to fight or do tasks for them? Or you can just come with your own guild of pirate Outcasts and kill everyone. The other step is, you can join the Order or Destro for different objectives. A different fight. That's what 'war' should be like.. one big mess of sh!t hole filled with everyone trying to kill each other. Not just 2 sides trying to kill each other... that's kinda like watering down Warhammer 40k. |

VERY slim chances of warhammer to have fixed fractions as yesterday what one of the artist said during the booth tour "it will be a big bowl of intense pvp action, and i cant speak any more about the game"......

Yar, I would think it would really really work better with a huge free for all.
You can do some quests with your factions or some other related maybe. Align yourself with some neutral factions but no clear cut or forced choices. Makes also adding new races or zone much easier too without having to absolutely categorize each races versus each other. For example Eldars would most probably be put under the "Good" side while they are actually quite far from it. Each time I think of that I remember that line that is in each book of the "Black Library" books: "There is no peace among the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods" (Black Library being the ones that publish all Warhammer/Warhammer 40K novels) I am usually more a pve person but Warhammer 40K definitely calls for huge pvp fest Added on June 19, 2010, 1:26 amFound this: THQ Website "On the very edge of the galaxy lies the Sargos Sector. For centuries it was rendered uninhabitable and isolated by volatile Warp Storms. Even now, deep within the sector the very fabric of reality is unraveling. Only the ancient Sentinel Devices hold the Warp at bay. But the ravages of time and meddling of humanity have weakened the Sentinel Devices—and now, the battle for these lost worlds is at hand. Drawn to the conflict, the great races of the galaxy descend upon the Sargos Sector, seeking to preserve reality—or to tear it asunder. Side with the forces of Order, or the vile hosts of Destruction, in a war that will unlock ancient secrets, reveal dark purposes, and determine the fate of the Sargos Sector. For in this dark millennium, there is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter." Sigh, that Order / Destruction makes me really fear it will a stupid awkward "let's be friend" stuff like in Warhammer Online That kind of alliance between Good and Bad would never work in WH40K were races prefer to go extinct than ally with each others (or even to cooperate among themselves...) To illustrate, penny arcade: Penny Arcade on Wh40k alliances... This post has been edited by Gormaz: Jun 19 2010, 01:28 AM |

THQ: Dark Millennium Costs In $50M Range, uDraw Projections Up To 1.7M
QUOTE THQ executive vice president and CFO Paul Pucino said the company is projecting costs in the $50 million range to get its first MMO, the Warhammer-licensed Dark Millennium, to market in 2012, putting the title's development budget at "the high end of a core game," he said. Speaking in an investor briefing call which Gamasutra attended, Pucino wouldn't comment on the number of subscribers he saw as necessary to break even on those costs. He did, however, say that a successful launch could "continue to generate [revenue] over a long period of time -- five, six, seven, eight years," and that the project could be very profitable in that time frame. Pucino once again raised public expectations for fiscal year sales of the company's uDraw tablet for the Wii, which launched last November. The company now expects to sell 1.7 million tablets by the end of the fiscal year in May, up from a 1.3 million sales projection in December. The tablet reportedly sold 1.2 million units in the 2010 calendar year, and recently launched in Europe and Australia. In the briefing, Pucino reiterated plans to release new uDraw software every three or four months, and again floated the possibility of allowing other publishers to make software for the device. This third-party software would presumably drive sales of THQ's hardware, Pucino said, which continues to generate "software-like margins" on each sale. After what Pucino saw as an investment year in the current fiscal period, he said he sees the next two fiscal years being characterized by growth for the company, driven by hit franchises, a transition to digital revenues, and a newly lean cost structure. While that period will see one "major release" from THQ every quarter, Pucino also said the company is planning only one or two new AAA franchises each year, with sequels to those franchises spaced out every two or so years. While Pucino said consoles would remain the dominant portion of the overall game market over the next two years, he saw large growth potential in online and mobile markets, as well as, intriguingly, "emerging technologies" that hook up to living room TVs. “For a very, very small investment, and a very very small piece of hardware, any television set in any home can become a gaming platform, once again very good for us,” he said. Responding to a question, Pucino said the company is looking to transition away from its dependence on licensed properties, which represent up to 70 percent of THQ's balance sheet. “To get to 50-50 would be something very appealing to us," Pucino said on the desired split between licensed and original revenues, citing the increased profit margins on original properties. Pucino also spoke positively about the company's newly opened Montreal studio, which he said recently hired its 100th employee as part of a plan to staff 400 people at the location over the coming years. He said the tax incentives from the government there make costs for games developed out of Montreal up to 40 percent lower than those at other studios. Source: Gamasutra |

QUOTE THQ: Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millenium is no longer an MMO By Fred Dutton Published 29 March, 2012 "Refocused" to "immersive single player and online multiplayer experience", 118 jobs cut. Tweet THQ has "refocussed" troubled MMO Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millenium. It's now an "immersive single player and online multiplayer experience", the publisher has announced. Rumours circulated earlier this year that the game had been cancelled before THQ revealed it was looking for a business partner to help carry through its original vision for the title. However, it's now confirmed that the game's scope is being scaled back and it's going in a new direction. "As previously announced, we have been actively looking for a business partner for the game as an MMO," explained THQ CEO Brian Farrell. "However, based on changing market dynamics and the additional investment required to complete the game as an MMO, we believe the right direction for us is to shift the title from an MMO to a premium experience with single and multiplayer gameplay, robust digital content and community features. "Because we believe strongly in the high-quality and vast creative work that is in production, this is the right decision for both our portfolio and for gamers devoted to this powerful property." THQ didn't reveal platform details or release timing. As a result of the downsizing, a number of development staff have been laid off - 79 full-time employees at Vigil Games and 39 employees at Relic Entertainment. It's been a tough few months for the publisher. Off the back of heavy quarterly losses, due in part to dismal sales of its uDraw peripheral, it recently announced wide-ranging redundancies and restructuring, with Farrell taking a 50 per cent pay cut.
