I've been getting very good battery life with JuiceDefender.
Phone has been running for nearly 8 hours and I still have about 80% battery left.

one of my favorite app now, i'm using the paid 1 Ultimate Juice, 7 hours and my battery only drop 3%

If it's useful, I'll share my setting:
APN enabled, MMS disabled, Prefer WiFi disabled
WiFi disabled (i think this will cause my phone to auto reboot)
Timeout disabled
Schedule enabled - 2m every 30m
Night enabled - 1:30am to 6:30am
Battery enabled - 30%, Charger enabled
Traffic enabled - while 5KB/30s
Peak disabled
Screen enabled, Only after unlock disabled
Location disabled

These settings increase my battery life almost 2X.

What do you guyz think about comments from experts that Android has automatic apps management and these (Juice etc. ) not necessary? I uninstalled Juice cuz it caused other problems and seems battery OK (must charge 1 or 2 days) and all seems OK. Is there REALLY any difference?

I read the description of the stuff it does, it just does things that you can do yourself as well, so I'm not that interested. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I removed it as it would stop my programs from syncing when the screen was off, so my mail, Twitter basically fell out of sync.

Twitter I can live with, but I cannot afford to lose push email.

I've had my Desire a week, rooted and flashed with 3 different froyo roms. All of them sucked up battery life even when not in use and the battery could drop 10% an hour after being unplugged. I tried app killers, I tried the free juicedefender but none of them really improved the battery life much.
I believe wifi remained on even when not in use. Yes, you can turn it off wifi and data manually but what if you forget? So I bought Ultimatejuice this afternoon (because juicedefender only works with data) figuring I can get a refund if it proves no use.
There was a remarkable difference on running it. Over the last 3 hours the battery only fell 4% with little use. I also installed autokiller as advised by ultimatejuice but did not configure it.
Depending on how you use the phone, juicedefender/ultimate juice may not be suitable for you but it's going to stay on my phone. My first paid app and worth it.

i thought GTalk is for US only? no?

anyway for JD users, lets install juice plotter as well to see the effects (if any) JD gives on the battery, i know usage between day to day are different but we can see that also on the graph.. i quote my post on the legend thread below...
