This is a regular feature for the community pages of the newspaper. Is it appropriate for PhD School?

Try www.earthagain.cc if you have books to give away. They collect books and convert into points so you'll be able to redeem items such as books, plants, fertilizer etc. They are slowly becoming a regular in One Utama.

For other things, you can donate to charity homes or those donation box (tesco puchong/ ttdi etc).

Recycle bins are also available around town, Damansara, Ikea/Ikano, schools too.

Hope that helps.

Not many people know yet that the Energy Efficient Light Bulbs contain mercury. Despite being a small amount, it is still very dangerous if leaked into the earth or water. But, PhD education teaches people to take the Energy Efficient Light Bulbs to the nearest recycling station, or return to the retailer if the owner is a member of the Distributor Takeback Scheme.

for batteries, it is never a problem for me as my company has a big thrash can for batteries only...so i always collect and dispose at my company...

for plastic bags, i have since minimized the use, in penang, we don't use plastic bags anymore, we use recycle bags...

but if i really need...i'll buy from Tesco plastic bags because they are bio degradable...

may i know where is the nearest recycling station you mean that accepts energy saving bulb? retailer like Philips and Osrams do take back?
i'm not aware of that....

I usually return the bulbs to the lighting retailer since they're willing to take back. Since I don't know where you're staying, but if you're staying near Mutiara Damansara, then you can pay a visit to a Recycling Centre at Ikano Power Centre, near IKEA Malaysia. You also can find the List of Community Recycling Center here provided by Alam Flora.

By the way, are you inventing meaningful eco-friendly gadgets for Malaysians, such as the Portable iPhone speakers, “eco-amp” (made of recycle fibers)?

The product is sustainable and is made of entirely FSC certified recycle fibers which are already used. The amplifier works in the same way in which the old gramophones used to do in the past. A horn, which is articulated, amplifies the sound which comes from a source which is a single point. One of the biggest advantages of this device is that it is not run by the help of battery.

Would like to get some feedback.

Are there many people who are considerate enough about the environment to dispose of dry batteries and electronic gadgets responsibly? (i.e. phones, MP3 players, cameras)
