QUOTE(Satanist @ Jun 28 2010, 03:49 PM) The most brainless piece of fanboy article I've read. Sony's strategy is for its console to do EVERYTHING and has thus abit of both other console technologies. Its called consumer empowerment. Theres no way in hell it lost the hardware race. i wonder who is the fanboi here. you should reread the article objectively to understand what the writer is trying to get across.Sure the 3Ds doesnt need glasses but you need to be directly infront of it to be effective and heck, its a handheld!. Against sony's HD 3D theres no match and not to mention the amount of games for Sony demoed in E3 Kinect? Pffh... ever heard of the PS eyetoy? Does almost the same thing during PS2's heyday. And oh, the games demoed are all casual games just like copied from the wii. IMO its a great technology but is sure wasted on a game console. It should have been a system for controling homes. Even if xbox goes 3D, what kind of system does it adopt? Cant do the 3ds type coz ya need to connect to a tv.... do the filtered glasses kind, and xbox will be the laughing stock. Follow Sony? Which tv will be supported? |

errrmm, the eyetoy/pseye is not the same as the kinect. the tech may look the same but how they work are different. that's the truth.
the pseye is basically a webcam with IR that tracks the signal that gets returned (or not returned). so essentially, it is just detecting space or whatever is in that space. let's use the example of a simple catch-the-ball game. the pseye works with the game to determine the space where your hands need to be to virtually catch the ball. if your hand does not interrupt the IR signal, the pseye knows that there is nothing in that space and sends the right data to the game to say that you failed to catch the ball. this is why there is a limit on what kind of games or app it can do because the hardware is limited in that way. i understand that the pseye also does facial recognition, edge tracking and stuff, but its still limited in a sense that the tech is dated and somewhat basic. its stuff that normal pc webcams can already do. the kinect on the other hand works on a almost similar principle but the fundamental difference is that the IR signal is encoded before it gets sent out. basically the IR doesn't just detect space. it 'sees' what kind of shapes or stuff are in the space. The IR signal that gets returned to the kinect is processed and it knows what is in the space, like a hand, head, finger or leg. see how the kinect is more powerful in that sense? don't forget that the kinect can detect multiple objects (players) simultaneously, calculate depth (it knows how far you are away from the kinect) and does voice recognition (something the ps eye also have i think) as well. |
