The Kia is the cee'd, basically the European Forte, which is supposed to be better I believe, as in better materials, parts, safety, handling, but also more expensive to produce, to compete on the European market. You hardly see pimped cee'd though, as it is usually bought since it is a rather affordable car with like 7 years warranty, and it is, well, good enough (and yes, it is. The old one already was. A perfectly fine, though perhaps not exactly exciting car).

About the Benz... not 100% sure, but I think it should be a 2007-2011 Mercedes SLK.

In the background there is also a VW T4 or T5 and I think a 3 series Touring. Think I can also see a Ford S-Max far away.

Recently I was in Germany for 6 weeks, so I have snapped a couple of photos. I also have a G35 and a GT-R R34 snapped in Malaysia, couldn't be bothered to post them yet though.

Nice 350Z, he could have washed it though...

Yeah, I have a DSLR, and I do know about composition etc., it's what I do for a living (well, part of it). Most photos I post here are snapshots though, usually taken with my phone (the better ones have to be edited, and somehow since I have to do it all day for work I don't want to touch Lightroom and Photoshop in the evening).

In terms of DSLR... consider Pentax. I like how their cameras are all rather professional, but with the size and weight of an entry level camera. The K-5 is a brilliant camera, weather sealed like the big ones from Canon and Nikon, great image quality, well built (there is footage from a K-5 in the shower. Didn't harm it. My Pentax is 7 or 8 years old now, and it still works pretty well). Canon and Nikon can do that too, but those cameras are so big and heavy that you'll leave it at home all the time. And what's the point of that? Especially entry level Canons feel very flimsy, not to mention unintuitive and with bad layout/buttons (ok, Canons generally are to me, Nikons are ok, Pentax excels).

Best thing is to try all the options, unfortunately Pentax are rather rare, most shops do not carry them. The most important thing with buying a DSLR is if it fits into your hands, makes sense to you etc. unless you are a pro and need a certain lens, or you need full frame, etc. If you are in the JB area you can go to KSL, there's a Pentax dealer there.

@animaniacs: Love the one with the people standing around it. Really well done and captured.

Great car and photos smile.gif

The 550D... if you want to shoot video, yes. But I have had to work on photos of the 550D, and I thought I was editing photos of a point & shoot (ok, it's not _that_ bad, but I was kind of shocked at the amount of noise at ISO 100. My camera can't even shoot 100...). It seems to me as if they crammed too many pixels onto such a small sensor (Canon sensors are smaller than the rest, unless you shoot with one of the 5D or 1D variants, and except for Panasonic and Olympus). Also I really don't like the way the 3 and 4 digit Canons feel like. To me Canon gets interesting from the 2 digit models onwards, i.e. 60D, 7D, 5D and 1D.

Consider the entry level Nikons (D3100 probably, perhaps D5100). 2 of my friends shoot Nikon and they seem happy. The Pentax K-x, K-r and the just launched K-30 (more of a 60D competitor, with some features from the 7D) are also very tempting cameras. Pentax probably makes the most sense for serious amateurs. The automatic functions may not be as good as with Canon and Nikon, but the controls are better thought out (the important dials and buttons are where my fingers are, the viewfinder is usually better than elsewhere, you can use lenses that were built 40 years ago... without adapter. With even older ones are possible. The viewfinder screen on the K-30 and above can be easily replaced to assist in manual focusing, and old lenses just feel great. More solid, smoother, I like them).

That is if you don't care so much about video. If you do, then Canon is pretty much the way to go (unless you are looking at something like the D800 from Nikon, I believe that one has an uncompressed HDMI output which is something pros are craving for). Or if you already have Canon lenses (father, son, ...) that can be used on a Canon DSLR. Or if you crave for some of the lenses you can only get from Canon and perhaps Nikon, but then again those are usually extremely expensive, so I doubt it.

(To me Canon is a bit like Toyota. Overrated and overpriced, although the products are obviously good. But others offer so much more. I do love their point & shoots though. Great great great little cameras, I have 2 of them and my mother has one).

Oh my. Now I sound like a total d***, posting awful photos and talking like a pro. Anyway, all I wanted to say was check out what the others have to offer, before going for what everyone else has.

A Subaru Yaris? biggrin.gif

@r3kahsttub: You didn't take that one, did you? How on earth did you get that sort of light onto the car? Looks like a studio shot, except for the dirty floor. Very nice.

Taken at some sort of VW showroom in Berlin (or rather a VW themed shopping center?).

Haha, good luck chasing Porsches with that Waja. biggrin.gif

Nope, not living in Berlin. Actually that was my first trip to Berlin, ever (having lived in Germany for 20+ years).

Oh yeah, the Twizzy. Seen one on the road. Funny thing. Not very practical for Europe, since the lack of windows mean it can get fresh in winter. But it's such a funky little car.
