Before I got my GPs, I was hunting for a pair of female ones. Apparently there was a shortage of female GPs, so I ended up getting 2 male GPs. Getting Shorthairs are quite easy. Plenty of places do sell them. The 2 places I found to have plenty of short hairs are Pet Safari in Ikano and the lil pet shop in Sungai Wang. I prefer the one in sungai wang then pet safari. Because I find the staff quite clueless and not very helpful. But generally... Most Pet stores don't take care of their animals very well. (they are interested in profit and not animal care) So do aim to get a GP that just arrived if possible. (Reduces the chances of having problems)

Fleece needs to be washed at least once a week (depending on how many GPs you have and how smelly it gets). But even if you do use fleece, you will still need a proper bedding for them to use as a toilet. Not wise to have the whole place fleece only.

Usually I will also do daily spot cleaning. (scooping poop up and dumping it into the GPs toilet) Cos they really do poop a lot. REALLY A LOT.

But remember.... GPs are living creatures that need to be loved and taken care of. They are not toys or objects. So before getting one... Be prepared that you will SPEND more money on them then expected and they will occupy quite a bit of your time till the day they die. It's a bigger commitment then most people think.

Hi sweetiewawa... I read somewhere that using old newspapers for bedding is not a good idea. I don't know why... So that's why I didn't use it. But then a lot of people recommend Back to nature Bedding. Which is made from old newspapers.... That's what I use... So I am quite confused if old newspapers are good or not for GPs.

Hi Lionel, thanks for your reply. Yeah, there does seem to be a shortage of female GPs! I thought of starting with a pair of female GPs as they are not as aggressive as males. Great! I'll drop by Pet Safari (Ikano) this Sunday. And there's a pet shop in Sg Wang??? Gosh... I've been working in Bkt Bintang for some time and I didn't even know there's a pet shop there! Will definitely visit this lil pet shop in Sg Wang later.  Do you recall which floor is it? Will also check out Daiso to see if I can get some cubes, or should I just get a big cage to begin with?

I used to keep hamsters....many hamsters for several years. Loved them to bits! I've always thought how nice it would be if we could keep them (GPs or hamsters) running around freely without cages. But alas, they wouldn't be safe from bigger animals, not to mention poop-ing all over the house.

some people will advice that old newspapers are not good since it is full of ink..=) not good for their teeth n health maybe..that is why i'm thinking of changing the bedding..to fleece..=)

i think it is a good idea for buying short-haired GP for your 1st time having GP as pets..=)
usually it hard to find female GP..petshop always got more male than female..
if u want to find GP, there is a petshop in Tesco Ampang..they sell american breed for RM25-30 only..

The pet store in Sungei Wang specializes in small furry animals. So GPs, Ground Hogs, Ferrets, Hamsters, Rabbits. But it's like a real small store. So Don't expect much. But I did get a really nice GP travel bag there.

I also had the same thought that 2 female GPs will be less aggressive then 2 male GPs. But I have had no problem with my 2 males. I believe all GPs are like people. They all have their own unique temperament. So having 2 females, they may fight as well. But I find the best way to pick a GP is, get the one you feel connected to. When I saw my Omelette, I knew he was the one. He has a great personality and was not scared. We connected pretty well.

After spending several weeks hunting for GPs in different Pet stores and online shops/forums. I find that once you have that connection. You will know what is right for you.

But don't be discouraged if your GPs don't connect immediately. Some GPs take time to warm up due to a change of environment. But have fun and enjoy your GP hunting. Do check carefully that the GPs are healthy. My omelette has some fur mites. This is common in Pet shops that just clump all their GPs together. This means I gotta spend more money to bring him to the vet to be treated, and that means more stress for poor omelette. He just had his first injection last week and it was the first time I ever saw his eyes bulge out so much. So if you have a healthy GP, you can avoid all of this.

I got omelette for RM35 and Bacon for RM188 cos he's a peruvian.

Peruvians/Shelties and coronets are usually more expensive.

Abbys are quite common but are about RM60

anyone want to let go their male rex gp ? would love to buy bcoz i ed have 3 abby GPs ! but all female . nid to give 2 of them and buy one male rex if possible can swap . haha if no rex , sheltie and peru should consider .
