A couple (age 32, female and age 52, male) was shot dead at their condo car park in Cheras. The police suspected robbery or revenge. [Star 12 June 2010, pN23]

A waiter, an Indian nationality, in his 30s was shot dead near a mamak restaurant in Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara. [Star 13 June 2010, pN8]

Gunshot murder in the press for two consecutive days is very depressing. In the old west, men would settle their difference in a draw. Malaysians, who had no such historical roots, seems to be taking after the old west. This “have gun will travel” mentality believes that the gun will solve any problems. It seems to have been an emerging trend here.

Can anyone speculate why we prefer the gun now when we had always used other means in the past?

Perhaps the enforcement of our firearms laws had slackened. What do you guys think?

I thought owning a gun can be applied for hunting purpose, and for VIP (for self defence purpose)

other than that are considered illegal?

Guns used by criminal are mostly smuggled from Thailand if i'm not mistaken.

Of course to maximize the damage dealt to the victim. And best way without get your hand dirty.

One of the interesting fact about usage of gun

People involved in conflicts that dare others to take revenge and it happen, it is good to remind some people to behave or eat the bullet to grenade up your S like the Mongolian case.

It is clean up time, I don't see anything wrong though. We take matters into our own hands and face the consequences, armed robbery could harm the bystanders otherwise covered by insurance.

Snatch thieves cause more harm to us than firearm assault, those are social ill that target the innocent that we should be concern than a few "cowboys in the street".

Well, the penalty for possession of gun is death. People use to think twice about illegal possession of firearms. The same goes for dadah too. Corruption today is more rampant than those days. People no longer care where drugs were concern and the same goes for guns. You just need to have enough money when your are caught.

Very grey area i would think personally. Hear me out.

In the USA where everyone can own a firearm (if you have the license), robbers will actually think twice of robbing a house because there's a change where the owner of that targeted house owns a gun, what more a rifle.

Even when u're trying to rob someone on the streets, you have to be careful else you might rob your own life away if so happens the target has a gun hidden somewhere.

In malaysia, its different. Why? Cause everyone knows you're not allowed to own any sort of firearm so if you're a robber with a gun, you have the advantage if you want to rob a house or a person on the street.

Pros and cons, that's why i mentioned its grey area. Giving firearm license to everyone will make a town like a cowboy town.

Whacker,
I am talking about people being gun down and the reason did not look like robbery. It looks more like I hate your face situation. In the pass we hear the use of asid, parang, of being chop to pieces. Now it seems we have moved into guns.

Guns give quicker death as oppose to the conventional method mentioned. I am just curious about the new choice.

Simple, gun can kill with minimal risk to the killer. I mean, when you can murder someone like 50-100meters away with minimal risk to own life, that looks like an attractive way to kill.

But when the other party has guns, that is a different ball game.

if u think another way, gun offer a "fast death", where the victim doesn't have to suffer as much as if they are chopped by parang or sprayed by asid

This is becoz Malaysia is a 3rd world country with inhabitant not fully evolve yet (mentally and...I know this seems harsh but your physical feature is actually a sign of your evolution)

the less evolve you are..the more serious you take matters into your own hands to satisfy your anger.

So you guys think people are looking for clean and convinent methods these days. They are no longer interested in the old fashion way of waiting in ambush to clobber, chop, or spray acid on you. To a certain extend, you see the trend is moving to a less savage method? Although, I still think vengence is sweeter when spice with savegery (like chopping off your member and feeding it to the dogs).

Xuzen, these guys were shot at point blank range. With the element of surprise on your side, it does not matter if they had a gun.

Cat you lost me here. Killing with guns had for a long time been "THE CHOICE" in more developed nations. Are you saying the developed nations had evolved less than those who were in 3rd world countries.

I am curious about your findings on the correlation between physical features and stage of evolution. Perhaps you could start a thread on that and enlighten us.

what are the other means we preferred in the past? parang?

for me, even with strict gun control and regulation, it only works provide ppl in this country are all good citizens and the laws r enforced.

but those who are criminals, do u think they giv a dam bout laws n regulations? They hav they own way to smuggle/obtain the firearms and use it to kill those innocent ppl who obey the laws.

The Mutually Assured Destruction theory was extended from this theory too I guess. While it may hold water, but it has its drawback too; i.e. those without firearms may even be weaker now.
