Warner Bros. Interactive will release a new version of the classic fighting franchise Mortal Kombat in 2011 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The publisher says the latest chapter in the longtime series will renew its focus on a mature presentation, featuring more gory Fatalities, or finishing moves.

For those that recall 2008's Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, finishing moves for DC Comics heroes were toned down into less graphic Brutalities.

The new Mortal Kombat introduces a Co-Op Arcade mode, where teams of two players can battle other duos online. Fresh graphics and a revamped two-dimensional fighting style will also be featured.

This marks the first Mortal Kombat to release exclusively under the Warner Bros. label. Last year, the publisher scooped up rights to the game and other franchises from defunct publisher Midway Games. Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe was co-published by Midway and Warner Bros.

Uoh, the Kung Lao fatality really creeps me out.. when i watch it feel like me yg kena the fatality... seram sejuk siot...

And i also like the way how they do the tag team match at the dead pool stage... where the losing player is kicked out and drop into the pool.. best.. best...

The demo shows some neat stuff as well... the x-ray attack is definitely most welcome... hmm and I do wonder how does Johnny Cage do his x-ray attack with female character (does his low blow attack counts?????

Uoh, from the demo, they are playing with MK2 kombat arena concept such as dead pool, the pit, and also living forest... Perhaps they are rebooting this series from MK2...

Yup MK2 is the most successful from the series.

Hey, it was the game of the time hence the gory fatality..LOL~

I was 8 years old and my cousins were like 18 - 20 yrs old at that time..We had lots of fun playing together.

I like Sub-Zero and Scorpion..The heart pulling and crushing and freezing fatality..

Manage to read some articles from IGN from their E3 Preview of the game.. Interesting stuff
Seems that they going make a new timeline for the series and retelling it in a different ways...
"So we're kind of doing a Back to the Future type of thing, where Raiden is about to be killed by Shao Kahn, and just before he delivers the last blow, he sends a mental message to his earlier self, so the camera rewinds back to Mortal Kombat 1. The Raiden from back then gets a message and he doesn't know what's going on, but he knows something bad's going to happen, and the game spans Mortal Kombat 1, 2 and 3, retelling the story with an enlightened Raiden, and he's changing the course of things, so everything you've seen happen before – Liu Kang winning, the guys turning into cybernetic ninjas, are changed around, so you might see a character become cybernetic who wasn't before, and so you see a different version [of events]." from http://ps3.ign.com/articles/109/1098513p1.html

From gamespot as well, it did mention that they are eyeing an approximately 26 characters... wuhuhu
So far characters confirmed are (from gameplay demo) Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Mileena, Johnny Cage, Sektor, Nightwolf, Reptile, and Kung Lao, and from the e3 trailer, there's Rayden and Shang Tsung.. I hope they announce the other character soon...

Good stuff, but 26 is way to little, look at Tekken 6 and SSF4's huge rosters.

The new fatalities are really nice. Just checked them out on youtube. The bone cracking animation brings a lot of rage also
