hmm... IMHO... it's good. but not good in a sense that it's an 8" woofer... but some well designed 5.25" or 6.5" woofer can outperform it anytime. Clarity wise, no complaints, it's using opamps that produce bright and sweet highs, but weak on bass... that's why

m3400 has a quite good woofer for edifier's in that price range... it has the quantity (volume)... quality wise i would say good for a speaker at that price but could be better. nevertheless i still prefer m3400's bass anytime for any speaker in the rm200 price range...

its the cheap power filter caps....it cannot charge and discharge properly. people who don't know electronics will tell you need to warm up, blast first etc. if you crack up the volume louder and teh sound will break
modern day ic amp doesn't need warm ups unlike tube amps. its start and go.

the higher the value, the longer it needs to charge up. but its not the value need upgrade its the speed. you change it to a more reputable brand with low esr.

agreed. actually with most caps will be the same except high end like BG. they might take even longer or shorter depends. last time modded soundcard to panaFM caps it took about 2 weeks to settle down (computer on average 8hrs a day)

and my M3400 when i just bought it the sound is quite inconsistent for the 1st few weeks. had a friend over to practice some dance... the 1st time he came the bass was very heavy... the 2nd day it was almost non existent, didnt touch any settings or anything. probably the caps... but after 1mth or 2 the sound is good after 1-3min start up...

now after 2yrs the it needs about 5-10 mins to settle down on the tone... caps again i think... hav to change soon...

edifier should produce one dual woofer design system... double 8''... since the satallites can do amazing clarity their woofers should do amazing bass too tongue.gif
i still havent found a multimedia system that can sound like a live PA especially like line array... where the punch is really there no matter what instrument or recording, and where the bass is made by nearly purely pushing the air, not by using the enclosure to louden up the bass... cool.gif

but it wont really work unless he has a mansion...

concert PA are designed for SQ at high SPL for far distance application (long throw)
if near distance and you dont reach a certain SPL... it would sound worse than that edifier you got at home =.=
line arrays are designed to be very directional, so if you dont have enough room to spread them out left to right... it will sound very mono.
and they are not designed for close field stereo appilactions normally... eg you wont hear the stereo and panning effect as good as smaller systems...

if near distance and you DO reach that SPL... u'll go deaf in a few days tongue.gif

but i love the sound of line arrays... fast... punchy and dynamic...
certain system like the spanish DAS audio have very thick vocals, super low and punchy bass, warm but balance tone, a little crispy, yet fast and dynamic... really wont fatigue for long hours listening... i also like speakers that retains the same tone from mid-low to loud to very loud. many speakers cant do that... they either sound best during low volume, or mid volume,

cant really tahan slow and smooth systems... no kick. thats me cool.gif

oops..off thread topic sweat.gif

For it's price, if you have a good sound card yes.

For speakers this price you also need very good positioning... just moving the woofer 1inch from it's position can change the sound alot. Moving the sats will also make a difference, try to position it in a way that it doenst have phase cancellation with each other or the woofer... The furniture and design of your room plays it part too. Because MOST speakers in this price range utilize the enclosure to create it's tone and loudness more than pure "pushing the air". So, it might sound great in room A or position A, but it might sound really cheap in room B or position B

Again, for it's price, the woofer is worth it, more capable than others in the this price range by edifier. but the sats abit too dark and congested for my liking... audition it and you will know if it suits you tongue.gif
