hi guys. im planning to get the edifier DA 5000 Pro or the edifier S550 set. i have enough budget to buy either one but is the listening experience from both are much different? i dont intend to turn the volume very high and use the system to watch movies. some people say the DA 5000 Pro is enough for me but the some say just go straight to S550, worth the money and upgrade.
the S550 is rm600 more expensive than the DA 5000 Pro but if the sound quality is not so much different, better i stick with the DA 5000 Pro only. problem is here in JB, no pc shop got ready stock for both so i cant test the system. if i order from distributor, i must put deposit and straight buy so big problem if already buy then not 'puas hati' with the sound quality. thanks.

1. Realtek ALC889 codec 2. High Definition Audio 3. 2/4/5.1/7.1-channel 4. Support for Dolby® Home Theater 5. Support for S/PDIF In/Out 6. Support for CD In
there its audio. is it a match if i use s550? or just DA 5000 Pro enough already?

seems that i cant find the edifier s750 anywhere. it is not available anymore? if the s550 doesnt support digital/THX, i feel like the DA 5000 Pro would be sufficient eh?

QUOTE(nismo91 @ Jul 26 2010, 12:27 AM) well depending on your expectations, but from the way i see it, DA5000P should be worth it, since it's almost half the price of S550. yes the S550 does not take digital input (coaxial and optical) so analog only... right now, im matching a pair of Punch 100W rms each surround speakers with a very old model of altec lansing subwoofer, max output of only 40W max. the subwoofer is almost the same size of the speaker set. since i watch movies, wanna feel the surround sound so either the s550 or da5000 pro, the front left and right speakers will be swapped with these current Punch ones. hope it will sound better.

ok, got myself the DA 5000 Pro. sound quite good for my kind of usage. currently using the cables provided by Edifier for the output line to the speakers. will changing them to the thicker fluorescent cables that large speaker system use like in the disco change the sound quality?

ok, ive tested/experimented changing one of the cables with a better but older home theater cable i found lying around. theres some difference felt, the satellite speaker sounds crisper and clearer and my concern are the surround ones, not the front left+right. went to a nearbuy electronic store and a good piece of cable (judging from the salesman recommendation, the cable is damn thick) would cost rm3 to rm3.50 a metre so, still in my budget and next monday i would go buy them.
also, thanks power911 for pointing out that matter about the cables from the sub to the pc. will go check it out too this coming monday. whether the difference is big or small, im sure there IS difference and to my personal judgement, its worth it.

QUOTE(rxy @ Aug 1 2010, 01:23 AM) Speaking of cables,you should really change the interconnect.. That matters even more IMO. Yea,speaker cables are cheaper. But interconnect might not be. Perhaps you could ask some of the forumer to diy some interconnect for you. that would have a high c/p value. can you guys please help me point out anyone selling the said cables in the garage sales thread? im really like a fish out of water here regarding audio, cables, etc. my speaker set is just a normal one so i dont feel like spending a lot of money on cables. hope to find mid-range cables that match them with value for performance.

QUOTE(rxy @ Aug 4 2010, 10:39 AM) Depending on what cables you want. Mini-RCA interconnects or speaker cables only? Maybe you can try ask Wotiyo or PcWork. Or else you can go to garage sales and see things that look like my siggy one. Canare cables for speaker cables are not bad. Just ask them to help you. Of course,the change varies depending on personal experience. The loss would be reduced though and you can get more finer details. thanks bos. ive pm'ed both of them this morning but no answer yet. im looking for a cable with 3.5mm jack to the red-white RCA male jack, like this ;

QUOTE(rxy @ Aug 5 2010, 10:04 AM) yea,normal ones are cheaper. ainuddin wanted to test some better ones. QUOTE(power911 @ Aug 5 2010, 02:34 PM) ainuddin currently wants a GOOD cable not some RM10 crap hehe, thats right. anyway, went to a few audio shops earlier today, got one shop that can custom assemble such cables, dont know the brands of the cable and jacks used but a piece would cost me rm90-rm100. the salesman/technician said the cable and jacks were 'baik punya la' brand.

QUOTE(rxy @ Aug 6 2010, 11:48 AM) ainuddin,please check if they really use good ones. canare cable,neutrik plugs would be common. common meaning not too good, 'biasa2 saja' or, common meaning those are good brands that people usually go for? just ordered asus xonar d2x from a seller in the garage sales thread, will arrive hopefully next week and lets see how it goes from there. will decide on the cables after the sound card arrives eventhough i think i would still most probably get the better cables also.

can there be 'bottlenecks' with speaker systems? i dont think that a piece of minijack+2RCA jack+cable costing rm60 with a named brand would 'bottleneck' my system but yea, havent tried it yet so theres a possibility of it happening yes? if so, how to know that theres a bottlenecking happening? the sound sangkut2 or got buzzing noise or what?
just ordered the asus xonar dx to match it with my edifier + roccat kave. will arrive hopefully this coming week so will be rigging them up using the standard interconnect cables first. wotiyo just replied my pm and he is ready to custom the said cables if im going for it later.

QUOTE(beggarmaster2000 @ Aug 8 2010, 03:21 AM) hmmn i'm not an expert, but you'll need to change all the rest other cables to justify 1 good cable in between. at least thats what i think, please, feel free to shoot me down ---==---------- something like this kinda feeling =) like i asked, how to know there is bottlenecking going on? the sound pecah2 or buzzing or how? like an old cpu bottlenecked, the picture will stutter and the sound would be out of sync for a full hd blu-ray movie as an example, so how do we know that there is a sound system bottlenecking?

QUOTE(rxy @ Aug 8 2010, 04:54 PM) The bottlenecking would happen in a form of clarity things like that. It wouldn't crack your sound. If let say a HiFi cable pair with your system,then perhaps your speakers will cause bottleneck.Got it? Added on August 8, 2010, 4:55 pmbeggarmaster is right. normally have to change all the cables to feel the total change. but in ur case,perhaps you can try first,whether the mini>rca interconnect make any difference. ok i.c. my soundcard should get posted today, arrive tomorrow or the next day. gonna test first with the standard cables.

ok guys, got my xonar dx, installed with its software and latest drivers. tweaked here and there and yes, im very satisfied. the sounds are so much clearer, fuller and cleaner. cant actually believe my da 5000 pro sounds this good, cant imagine either the sound quality if i had bought the S550. waiting for my 5.1 roccat KAVE to arrive to enjoy the surrond sound with a headset.
