1. Make sure the console is placed horizontally and NOT vertically.
2. Don't play too long! For me, only six hours per day if u wanna avoid the errors and the red rings(play 3 hours, rest 3 hours, then play 3 hours)
3. Make sure the air holes are not covered with dust
4. Play in a well-ventilated room(put it near a fan to avoid overheating)
5. NEVER knock or let your xbox 360 fall. the components inside are VERY fragile.
6. avoid going online because if YOU really don't want to get banned. yes! even the original ones can get banned randomly for no solid reasons.
7. if u plan to keep your console in the box, let it cool down for a while after playing b4 keeping.
8. don't panic if your screen goes black suddenly with the sound still on. it's mostly due to the cables.
9.ALWAYS install a game b4 playing!
10. visit gaming websites( the major ones are IGN and Gamespot) for updates on games if u want to be a gamer rather than just a player.
11. Research a game b4 you buy! game reviews might help.
12. gamefaqs.com is a good site to ask for help. they respond quickly. BUT, beware... they are very fussy about the use of PERFECT english.

may all my tips be useful to u and most importantly, HAVE FUN=)

Nothing will happened except slightly better ventilation as heat will accumulate at the bottom of the console if placed horizontally.

He's applying his personal preferences to prevent 3RRoD to his reply that's all.

My advice would be:-

-Make sure your power source is stable
-Don't change console placement when the console is running
-Don't place the console in enclosed space
-Always clean the dust around console area and the ventilation hole
-Don't use any cheap ventilation fans that draw power from XBOX power brick!

Current console is mostly immune to the previous fault so tips like place vertically, put fans behind the console or restrict game play time is not necessary.

and unlike the one said above, I do recommend to use the console online if your console is not modified. If you get banned that means there is somethign fishy about the console. They will not ban a console without a solid reason.

If you console is modified, make sure you do not ask anything about it especially pirate related stuff in here.

If you place the console vertically, you will increase the risk of getting the disc scratched. lolx. i agree with the dancing part.xD.

Well, my jasper is more than a year old now, and this whole time it's been placed vertically, it's often played for far more than 6 hours per day (and often without break), I've been slacking with dusting my xbox, it's under my desk so ventilation isn't great, it's online the moment it's switched on(but then again mine isn't modded), i run a lot of games without installing and so far i've had no problems whatsoever.

I do however agree with having fun with the xbox.

Don't trust these ppl too much.

The only case I've ever acknowledged is that a legit user is banned for owning a modded console. After investigation then only revealed that the console is actually a modded console before sent in to microsoft as RMA and the team who repaired it never manage to reverse the modification. This poor guy had this console for his RMA process and become a true victim.

The rest are all talking male chicken.

But, I found out that a few people got banned just for playing ORIGINAL GAMES sold(leaked early) So, who should be blamed??? The game developers for shipping the game too early or the shop for selling them so early? Well, I am pretty sure that the ones who bought it should not be blamed. I mean who can resist the temptation if it's a game that you desperately want...

I bought mine last March. It's my BABY!lolx
