Well, the IS does help quite a lot. I can shoot handheld at about 1/30s at 1:1 magnification with very high rate of keepers. At lower magnification 1/10s is no problem. And it's really sharp too.  biggrin.gif

If you do get the 100mm, it can act as your macro/portrait/short telephoto lens. Not a bad investment if you can afford it.  laugh.gif

thats what i think LOL

Wah! Such a waste la buying a rm3.3k lens to take plates of CKT. sweat.gif

if u take food usually why buy the 17-40 before leh ?
*
I got my own stupid reason lol

well it is one of the few lens that have mfd of lesser than 0.35m

i don't need big aperture since anything lower than f4 the dof is usually too thin

with 17mm, I can take the whole restaurant picture

I am saving for 5dmk2, so don't want efs lens

I wan the stupid red ring

the range it gives on a 1.6 is quite a good short zoom

Added on June 22, 2010, 8:46 pmOh another reason is I don't have the freaking 18-55 LOL

Those f/1.8 is means what?  rclxub.gif
*
f number shows the maximum aperture of the lens

the smaller the f number, the larger the aperture it is, the more light it allows it to go in, and also shallower depth of field

but well, dont ask those 1st, kasi go get 1 and play with it while reading online guides, or ask friend teach u

once there's a camera on your hand, it's easier to learn

till now i haven't use flash for shooting my lunch / dinner. smile.gif

i find it annoying if people use flash, so i also don't use flash cos i don't wish to annoy others. imagine each dish at least 5 shots (subjected to the skill of person behind camera) and multiply that by # of dishes. tongue.gif don't intend to be MIB.

if need to I'll use RAW + under-expose.
*
haha....i know, i hate it very much also lol

but since canon tak mau invent a sub RM3k 17-40mm HIS, so bo bian lo LOL

i try to take as little shot as possible too, sometimes like 2 shots each food nia, but then a lot of time balik see my composition like shiatz

upgrade lens ?
*
haha, then you got few more choice, but all upgrade

1) get an external flash, cheapest solution
2) upgrade body which allows u higher ISO
3) get something like the mighty 1, or well, the 50mm f1.8/1.4/1.2

find an L lens that can challenge EF-S 17-55 f2.8 IS USM. smile.gif

so are you still thinking that getting L lens is best? save a bit of money and lose out on what the non-L can provide?

L is not a NEED or MUST HAVE. there are plenty of EF lenses that are non L that can be used for practically and photography purpose under the sun.
*
but but but...i like L lens!!!

well, maybe is coz i think the chances i going to FF is very high gua...lol

or is that just an excuse to get a red ring?
