As some of u may already know that Google has made an agreement with the US Government to disable the Turn by Turn Voice Navigation for Android phones outside of the USA. So installing the Nav Launcher app alone will not help.

But there is a workaround solution to this problem.

I've tried the following method and it works on my Motorola Milestone
I have Turn by Turn voice navigation using GPS + Brut Google Maps 4.2.0.4210-brut13. (see video below)

Brut Google Maps 4.2.0.4210-brut13

Features:
international navigation using Google Maps Directions
map tiles caching on SD card
force-enable MT. If you're on Eclair or some custom Donut and don't have multitouch zooming, then maybe this will enable it.
force-enable Buzz feature
fix for map shift issue in China
option to hide zoom buttons
installable on non-rooted devices
could be installed beside original app

Credits:
canadiancow for starting a brainstorm; an idea to use maps directions as backend for navigation; great Nav Launcher app; helping and support
TAPP for enabling "Navigate" button; first version for non-rooters
acamar for his research on map shift issue in China
many, many people for testing it, complaining ;-), helping others, etc.
Google for making this great app and service and for not sending C&D to me so far ;-)

Mirror/different versions (thanks to 5m00v3r !):

Installation:

Just download & install. Then you will have both original and modded maps installed at once. If you want to have only my version, check section below.

Note: You may need to download Nav Launcher first from the Android Market to get it to work.

You cannot just download and install Nav Launcher just like that. Below is a description on Nav Launcher

Launches Google Maps Navigation in countries outside the United States.
Supports navigating to contacts, or a typed/spoken destination.

This requires that you have already installed the modified Maps with Navigation for use outside the USA. See forum for instructions.

Google Maps is free. Only thing is u have to use your 3G connection. But if u are like me on Digi's Smartplan RM68 unlimited data package, u won't have to worry at all since the max charge per month is RM68 for unlimited internet data usage. Once u hit the 3gb cap, they just throttle your speed and u can continue to use free of charge.

Aye? You didn't install it using HTC sync ?

EDIT: ops, forgot that this is Android general topic, not HTC only.

this works for me. it works well. it is able to reroute quite fast. i dont get the annoyign command to do "u turn at next available exit" like garmin. and this app takes less time to re-route based on my current heading.
only funny part is listening to a gwailo pronoucing our road names. damn funny.

It works on my HTC Legend perfectly too.
I have brut13 installed.
If you are using brut9, you will need nav launcher but I cant find Nav Launcher in the market anymore.
I am hesitant to uninstall Nav launcher. i'll keep it since its a very small sized app

i read somewhere that they just open up google navigation to a few countries in eu.
hopefully, it be matter of time before its launched here. biggrin.gif
then no need to use brut...

So, the map itself is already preloaded with brut file right? So, I don't need to go online and download map now correct?

Wow We can enable saving map to cache and save it to SD card!!!
Does that mean we can even navigate without 3G then?

And what is the multitouch and Buzz for?

The map details are not inside the card - it is being continously download thro your 3G connection. It is different from GPS software eg Papgo, TomTom, Ndrive etc

guys, anyone can help me? recently my SGS were reset to factory setting by my son...

last night i downloaded 4.6 map.apk from XDA but unable to install.

First it asks: This is a system application. Do you still want to replace it? All previous data will be saved.

However, when i click OK>Install...it says application not installed. last time i managed to install without rooting. and now i have deleted old files from last brut mod..

anyone can help?
