Published by: Stardock

Genre: Turn Based Strategy

Release date: 24th August 2010(tentative)

QUOTE
The player is a channeler of magic in a devastated world[3] which they can choose to renew or pervert to their own will, depending on whether they are one of the Human, or the Fallen — life-forms corrupted by the Titans.[4] Magic resides in crystal shards named after the elements; earth, air, fire, water and life.[5] Technologies allowing the creation of new units and diplomatic activities that influence AI characters will also play a role.[6]

Executive producer Scott Tykoski compared the game to Viva Piñata, but substituting "shovels and creatures filled with candy for swords and creatures filled with dark magic."[7] Stardock CEO Brad Wardell said that players should expect to reach "a Sauron or Morgoth level of power" by the end of the game.[8]

QUOTE
You are the sovereign.
Your people need you. So-called "adventurers" have entered the forbidden dungeon of Ithyrl and unleashed the long banished demon Kroxir, killing them in the process. Lord Ventir menaces your southern border with his army of death knights. The Sorceress Procipinee has claimed your northern cities as being part of her domain and the ancient dragon Smarag has agreed to aid you if you recover her eggs that were stolen by a different party of adventurers.

It's all in a day's work in Stardock's new epic strategy game, Elemental: War of Magic.

Customization, Magic, Warface, Empire Building and more
Design your sovereign in terms of talents, class, even what he (or she) looks like. Learn spells of increasing power to unleash on those who oppose you. Found new cities and build them up by researching new technologies, recruiting specialists or trading knowledge with other Kingdoms. Send your champions on holy quests to recover ancient artifacts, gain allies, or recover the great wealth lost during the Cataclysm.

A strategy game in an RPG world
In Elemental, you design and train your soldiers, archers, knights, magicians and more. With a vast storage of lore developed in collaboration with publishing giant Random House, Elemental ensures that every game is a completely new experience.

Been eyeing on this game for quite a long time.

I'm a huge fan of Masters of Magic by Micropose. At first i thought it will be single player but now i heard its multiplayer based.

MoM and MnM are different. Might confuse players who doesn't recognise these old school games tongue.gif

MoM turn based game while MnM is RPG.

Hopefully Stardock will learn from Masters of Magic on what made it so successful and able to have such a deep impact during those times

It seems like just last Friday we were showing you new screens and video from Stardock's latest PC strategy title, Elemental: War of Magic -- we were -- and today we're able to tell you that the game, which had originally been scheduled for February 2010, will launch on August 24 2010. Elemental will be available at retail, as well as via Stardock's own Impulse service, for $49.99. Hey, you even get to choose your purchasing strategy ... how about that?

Me too.

Unfortunately, turn-based games are quite rare these days.

Can have timed turns like the ones in Civilization 4.

I like the art style of the game, quite different from the conventional games these days.

Looks like I gonna have another game on Impulse.

The only game I have now on Impulse is Sins of a Solar Empire and its expansions.

Beta Testers can start downloading the game already!

For pre-orders, they are charging you and activating the accounts so by this afternoon everyone can probably start downloading.

According to an article from PC Gamer, the game was so full of bug at release its nearly unplayable. Anyone who bought the game, can you confirm this?

Yeah it seems they found it necessary to release the game now. It is essentially still a beta product. Lets look at the facts:

1) They were very bold in their scope for this game. Perhaps a bit too ambitious. If you look at their previous games, they have made simpler more basic game tech stuff. Which made their other games more polished because they could deliver. Elemental was grand to start with.

2) Right from the beginning it seems like it was a rush to get things done as quick as possible as their tentative release date approached.

3) Impressive new tech. Really impressive graphics and cool artstyle. The downside is that they paid for it in terms of stability and just not having the time to polish the engine up. CA did this with Empire Total War too. They'll probably get things right in their next effort but the bad thing is they'll probably get things right in their 'NEXT' effort.

4) It will take time to make the game 'final'.

5) Even some UI stuff feels not done.

PS : I stayed away from this game as I kinda saw it coming. 1 month off of release and the beta version was so rough and unfinished. Maybe it will be better 6 months down the line.

I never played Stardock's games, but I seriously thought they would do better then this.... I guess I'll never buy a pre-order, not anymore. Well, the only thing I wanted to pre-order lately was Brink, and the release date is not even set yet.

Galactic Civilisation 2 is by stardock. It is a very well done game. Sins of a Solar EMpire is by Ironclad(stardock only published it). Just to be clear, all credit for Sins should go to Ironclad. As I said GalCiv 2 tech was simple and not anything fancy, they could deliver the gameplay.

This is my favorite game. Many people think that it is too boring, but I like to build my castle, save resources and come up with tactics.
I am a fan of Heroes and I really like combat mechanics in war and magic.
I’ve been playing this game for 5 years and I’m not tired yet, it’s a really cool game.
