Activision reveals the next entry in the Guitar Hero franchise, Warriors of Rock, featuring more than 90 tracks, a Gene Simmons-powered quest mode, and new challenges for every track in the Guitar Hero catalog. Check out the first 35 tracks!

The biggest change coming to the Guitar Hero franchise in Warriors of Rock is the story-driven quest mode, featuring Gene Simmons of Kiss and giant-tongue fame, taking players on a journey from the famous CBGBs club to the molten lava fields of rock treachery. Eight Guitar Hero characters transform into Warriors of Rock in order to help the demi-god of rock take down The Beast. It almost sounds a bit like Brutal Legend. Plus, we get to see Gene Simmons hamming it up as the demi-god himself!

QUOTE
"The world is a boring place. Come with me, and enter a world populated of Demi-Gods and Beasts. Transform from an everyday person and become the savior of rock and roll," said Gene Simmons of KISS. "It was an honour and privilege to narrate Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, even more so, to voice the Demi God. From the God of Thunder to the Demi-God, how cool is that..."
Of course, we already knew about this. We've even seen a brief trailer. Still, official confirmation is nice.

What didn't we know? The game will boast the biggest on-disc track listing of any rhythm game, just like every new Guitar Hero release does, including a track written and recorded by Dave Mustaine of Megadeth especially for the game's quest mode. There's even a new guitar controller in the works, inspired by the game's new art style.

On top of all that, the game also adds new challenges to every song in the Guitar Hero library, breathing new life into tired old music.

As for the new music, here's the first 35 tracks revealed for Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock:

• AFI – "Dancing Through Sunday"
• Anthrax – "Indians"
• Avenged Sevenfold – "Bat Country"
• Black Sabbath – "Children Of The Grave"
• Buzzcocks – "What Do I Get?"
• Children Of Bodom – "If You Want Peace... Prepare For War"
• The Cure – "Fascination Street"
• Def Leppard – "Pour Some Sugar On Me (Live)"
• Dethklok – "Bloodlines"
• Dire Straits – "Money For Nothing"
• DragonForce – "Fury of the Storm"
• Drowning Pool – "Bodies"
• Fall Out Boy – "Dance, Dance"
• Foo Fighters – "No Way Back"
• Foreigner – "Feels Like The First Time"
• The Hives – "Tick Tick Boom"
• Jane's Addiction – "Been Caught Stealing"
• Jethro Tull – "Aqualung"
• KISS – "Love Gun"
• Linkin Park – "Bleed It Out"
• Megadeth – "Sudden Death"
• Metallica & Ozzy Osbourne – "Paranoid (Live)"
• Muse – "Uprising"
• My Chemical Romance – "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)"
• Night Ranger – " (You Can Still) Rock In America"
• Nine Inch Nails – "Wish"
• The Offspring – "Self Esteem"
• Queen – "Bohemian Rhapsody"
• Rammstein – "Waidmanns Heil"
• The Rolling Stones – "Stray Cat Blues"
• Silversun Pickups – "There's No Secrets This Year"
• Slayer – "Chemical Warfare"
• Slipknot – "Psychosocial"
• Stone Temple Pilots – "Interstate Love Song"
• ZZ Top – "Sharp Dressed Man (Live)"

Hooray for less unknown music and more good old rock!

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock is being developed by Neversoft for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with Vicarious Visions handling the Wii version. Look for it this fall.

I can imagine Queen Bohemian Rhapsody is going to be licensed to Rock Band 3 as well seeing how RB already has more than 10 queen songs, they've announced a keytar peripheral, and there's going to be vocal harmonies from GD:RB forwards.

Imo setlist is a little off.
A LOT of right-band-wrong-song cases.

Metallica? We're still waiting for Jump in the Fire, guys. How did you leave that out? D:
Megadeth, I just really want something off the Peace Sells album(for GH drums)
Anthrax, Smash Hits was lacking Madhouse so they owe it to us.
Slayer, I really still want Angel of Death. No excuses.

ehehehehe did you see what I just did there? XD

I'm not as much of a metalhead as you guys so the tracklist seems a bit dull for me.

Also AFAIK the songs from Avenged Sevenfold, Foreigner, The Hives, Offspring and Stone Temple Pilots are already on Rock Band.

I'll still probably end up getting the new GH, but i suspect i'm going to buy it, import the songs, play the game for about 2 weeks and then putting it back in the shelf and going back to rock band.

Lol now that you mention it, they better include compatibility with the imported WT and SH songs I BOUGHT for GH5(wat).
Also all the old WT and GH5/BH DLC songs.

Another piece of info: APPARENTLY Lars Ulrich of Metallica is also doing voicework for Quest Mode.
This game's starting to look pretty alright.

Here's why:
The strumbar isn't made out of peanut butter.

Just about everyone seems to be forgetting the main pro that makes the GH guitars the superior controller: its strum bar.
You can add real strings, include a pick, gyroscope and even a mini-fridge, but if I'm gonna stick my hand in goo I'd rather stick to that more colourful kids' toy.

Even still, all of the GH gutiar strumbars seem to die out after a while(especially the WT guitars, they used elementary school workshop parts to build those), so the main thing I want from this guitar is to have a proper long-lasting strumbar.

But Rock Band is getting my vote either way, AGAIN. You can't pass up 3-part harmonies and a keyboard.
Of course, if it's region locked again.... *cracks knuckles*

Just bought guitar hero 3 and found out my gretsch didn't work with the game. So, I'm back on the GH5 guitar. While the action on the strum bar is solid, things i don't like after getting used to the gretsch is the thick neck and noisy strum bar.

It seems like Rock Band is the general, party game, while Guitar Hero is the competition level game........

nope. i have both rock band 2 and gh5. i would say both compete in the same space. but gh5 is newer than rock band 2. rock band 2 release about the same time with ghwt (gh4), then there were no more release for rockband coz they were so busy revolutionizing rock band 3, wherease gh was so busy milking the cow (and still at it)

Believe it or not, all my competitive GH friends stopped taking Guitar Hero games seriously and now they're constantly going after lolimpossible Megadeth solos and some stupidly charted drum songs rclxms.gif

I think for once, I'm gonna stick with my GH5 guitar, the best guitar so far in my opinion, for Guitar Hero.....

Now Looking for a 2nd hand gh5 guitar for my PS3 RB 1 & 2, because all the Rock Band guitars suck.....

But will most probably get both the new Rock Band guitars for pro mode.

Now, if Rock Band releases Dragonforce in pro mode......

I played GHWoR today at a video game store in Australia(I moved out and I'm studying here now).

So first off, I had to use a totally broken GHWT controller, the strum bar was loose and it was overstrumming, not to mention someone stole the strap for it.

First off, the demo I played only had Quest mode, which was a bummer because I just wanted to play songs, because that's what Guitar Hero's all about >_>
When you enter Quest mode you'll find it's literally a reskin of GH5. The whole interface everything feels almost exactly as GH Metallica or Smash Hits was to World Tour. Disappointed.

Then there's an opening cutscene where some Demi-God son of a b**** is fighting some battle and his guitar is lost somewhere, he calls out to all warriors to help him fight evil etc no one cares.

Then you get to this map screen that shows you all the characters you use. In the demo, you only got Johnny Napalm and this new chick called Echo Tesla(I dunno if she was in other games, I didn't play the DS ones and I cbf with characters on GH5).

First off I played Johnny Napalm, it started with a cutscene where he woke up outside a bar drunk, then he walked in grabbed a beer drank some more and got up on stage, then I played Bat Country by A7X. The chart was k, but sorta boring. Johnny had this power where you could never have a multiplier lower than 2x, which sorta sucked the fun out of the game for me. I scored 10 Stars on Bat Country(ya, I dunno), then Johnny turned into his Warrior self, then I played Children of the Grave(or something) by Black Sabbath. Now he had this power where everytime you broke your combo you were awarded 2 stars or something? I dunno, broken like MW2.

Then I tried half a song with Echo, opening cutscene had her powering dead amps and equipment with her fingers and the camera would close up on her ass like 90% of the time. Her power was that everytime you hit 10 notes in a row you get 10% more Star Power, and that's all I got. At that point I stopped caring so I didn't get to her warrior self.

tl;dr This game isn't bad, it's just not good. The gimmicky super powers totally killed the game for me, and it's way worse than it sounds. If the charts for the pretty good setlist are any better than what I played, it would be worth it to buy just to play those in quickplay.

Added on September 29, 2010, 7:54 pmHas anyone gotten it yet?
I'm super stoked to play 2112, I just saw the entire chart and... well my face exploded.
