hey TS, add me to the members list...

Added on June 8, 2010, 11:02 amproblem :

i've found a solution to the flimsy micro usb port on our n900. there has been reports from everywhere about the micro-usb ports on the phones falling out, breaking away from the circuit board.

on a phone that needs to be charged almost every single day, apart from connecting for data transfers, the port will not last the phone's entire lifetime.

solution :

i filed off the two tiny hooks on the "B" micro-usb connector on the cable and the charger.

now the cables slip in easily, and comes out easily too, hence not putting much stress on the micro usb port.

PS : i used one of those old school dual sided stones used for knives sharpening. use the finer side of the stone, its like fine-grade sandpaper.
hold the connector firmly and evenly with your fingers, parallel to the surface and just file away.

just dont get too excited and scrape away the plastics / your fingers.

i will post pictures of it soon.

Ill explain again
ORIGINAL SET
- Warranty by Nokia Malaysia (COME ON Nokia MALAYSIA )
[/size]
- Free gifts
- Risk of faulty lower
- Warranty is fixed
- Pay premium price
- Correct region language
- Buying accessories no one dare to comment
-Complete accessories

Trained professional to repair your phones with original parts that comes with warranty. Come on the cost is bare by NOKIA MALAYSIA

AP Set

- Warranty By the shop ( COME ON SMALL SHOP HOW MANY PHONES CAN THEY REPLACE)
- No free gift or some tiny gift
- Risk of faulty higher because taken from another region
-Warranty not fixed like 2 years motherboard, 6months LCD, 3 months ribbon, 1 month accessories
-Pay for lower price if its higher than ori no one will buy
-Region language depend where the phone is from
-Buying accessories ppl will comment because its an AP phone
-Give incomplete accessories

The warranty of AP phones are by the shop itself lets say they sell to u RM1500 after 2 months u come back they must use their own pocket money to repair for u. If casing damage it might cost RM200 - RM300 so imagine if everyone come to their shop change casing they will be doing at lost. So they find reason to make it sound like its your fault so they dont bare the cost. When buying everything CAN CAN CAN CAN.  Example 3 cases the guy phone cant turn on the shop say got water inside but the buyer never touch water or cases saying technician not available la he missing la no stock for parts. etc etc

Risk of changing your phone parts as spare parts? Non professional work like soldering might damage other things.

This are just risks assessment and not all AP dealers are like that but just handful are.
1 of my fren case also is Nokia 8800 ARTE CARBON. Zitron set because friend is AP company let him repair because micro usb port broken. The guy solder back it works for 2months then broke again.
2nd time send back he said cant fixed because he did a bad job in soldering it damage other parts of the motherboard. To change the motherboard cost like RM1200. Because the microusb is stick to the motherboard.

This just are my experience and opinion
AP phones are great when there is no problem. When there are problems hehe have fun  tongue.gif
*
my additional advice is that get AP set from reputable sellers. i got myself an AP set as well. but from a better(bigger) AP company that offers 1 year on all components (lcd, charger, battery, acc) and 18 months on phone itself. But of course you wont get it at price like RM 15xx that people mention around here. Its only slightly cheaper than Zitron/Avaxx. It also comes with a contract that lets Nokia Care to provide service at a cost.

Avoid shop warranty at all costs. Shop warranty means the warranty is provided by the individual shop. Imagine a start-up company with 1 hot-dog-stand looking counter at the shopping mall. They wont be able to provide a proper warranty or repair your phone if its faulty. I dont want some newbie technician wannabe who has probably never taken apart a tablet/phone to tinker with my n900.

human bug your firmware have bugs.  U need to upgrade to the latest firmware to resolve this bug. So like i said earlier its time to downgrade your firmware to the bugless firmware running OSX)  rclxms.gif

my experience
N900 no lag at all do u want a video demonstration from my nokia n900?
Btw iphone have nothing to lag?
For me i prefer resistive touch i have 3 phones with resistive touch Nokia 5800XM , Nokia N97 and N900
For capacitive i have ipod touch and sold of my iphone 16GB 3GS because of limitation. To me i prefer resisitive over capacitive

Nough said tongue.gif

i think most of us have used nokia's first touch screen phone - 5800 express music. when i bought my 5800 in february 09, the resistive touchscreen sucked too. i think it was on firmware v11 when i bought it. but when nokia updated the firmware to v20 and then to v31, the touchscreen sensitivity increased.

on the final version that i used before i sold it off, on v50 that is, the touchscreen was simply amazing.

i think they increase the refresh rate of the "scanning" on the resistive screen. the faster the refresh rate is the better the experience .

i am sure most 5800 users that had the phone since older firmware versions and updated their firmware would notice this as well.

so i am just waiting for the newer n900 firmwares, maybe they will change the settings on the touchscreen controller.

anyway, does anyone know if the touchscreen drivers are open source or closed ? i know the gsm sw module is surely closed source.

show us. Remember not 1 run the rest pause

means if u open 4 apps means all 4 application running at the same time
*
Apple's multitasking works a little differently than on other smartphones. Instead of having all device resources available to every running app, iOS 4 lets only seven app services run in the background. These include audio (you'll be able to play Pandora radio, for example), VoIP services like Skype, GPS/location for apps like TomTom, push notifications, local notifications (those that don't to have to go through a server), task completion (users get an alert when a process is finished), and fast app switching (apps essentially hibernate not to use the CPU). According to Apple, this arrangement will have less of a drain on resources like battery life and memory than if it gave developers free reign. Also, pausing most background apps will free the system from having to juggle resources and kill stalled applications.

i would say apple is on the right track for once. they have the resource (only smartphone from apple) to make it a great OS. whereas nokia likes to divide and conquer (confuse) its consumers.

if nokia paid more attention to design and user friendless, it would be nokia in the headlines and not apple.

symbian5 was a semi-failure, even though the OS was better than apple's OS in every way the interface was never made for touch interface.

lets nokia learns and lets hope symbian^v3 will be more apple like in interface (we've already seen the pinch zoom) and other apple like gestures in demoes.

Symbian^3 = killer OS + killer interface

BTW good luck to ur dream in pursuing iphone.. I will stick to my beloved n900. rclxms.gif  rclxms.gif

yeah i wish they would stop complaining. nokia didnt say n900 is a flagship product. its a niche product. i'll repeat again, NICHE PRODUCT. dont buy it and start complaining that it does not do this and that...

i have admit, the iphone is a phone for the masses. the learning curve for iphone is almost non-existant. even my grandpa or my small cousin can use it.

the story with n900 is different, as i said before, its a niche product. and there never has been a product like it before. so what can you expect ? lets just say n900 is an experiment, and dont take part if you're not willing to.

the 5800 keyboard looks most finger friendly... but the 5800 screen different aspect ratio compared to our n900.
5800 = 16:9 aspect, while n900 is "close to 16:9" whatever that means...

love the vlc screen size and aspect ratio options. they're trying to emulate the PC version, and it seems to work. Anyway n900 IS a mobile computer... so it should work like one...

how to i download and install bless n900 camera firmware?

its only an app, its not a firmware.

you can get it from extras-testing i think.

check the front page on how to add a repository. then when the app manager refreshes, you will get bless n900. just select and install.

epikcase is ok la, i got it from another seller. brows.gif cos i got my previous 5800xm epikcase from him also.

anyway, the dimensions of the case a bit cacat, keyboard slider a hard to move and it scrapes the warranty sticker off. maybe need a bit mod on the case itself before it can be used.

but i wont blame the manufacturer. the design of the n900 makes it hard for any casing to be attached properly. unless its made real thin for a perfect fit and made of real strong and sturdy material. normal plastic / rubber wont hold on or break/chip off easily if it was made that thin.

I'm also using epikcase for my N97 (rubber one) and it still in a good condition

I mean other than buying the case online

I've been to lots of phone shop and none of them selling case for N900

the otterbox = 130?  blink.gif

too expensive for me T_T

BTW is there any casing made of rubber or resin as rubber case is more durable
*
rubber wont work. because the n900 slider mechanism not same like n97. 97 goes up, but n900 slides out straight. rubber would be too thick. and no place for the case to latch on the bottom part.

i just resorted to using a Golla pouch with the n900 wearing just a screen protector. otherwise naked.

wah... even the "get started" widget u never remove ar...

anyway, since its aluminium, will it have issues with signal penetration. i am sure it will affect in some way, imagine, bluetooth, wifi, 3G = all RF based. and covered with aluminium.
