Hi, may i know whats the difference between Adaptive Anti Aliasing, and Anti Aliasing???
this is for a Ati HD 5850. My graphics card is set to default in Adaptive Anti Aliasing. While Im filtering 'SmoothVision HD' through Catalyst Control in 'edge-detect'

I surfed the net but haven got any news regarding the difference between the both. Can anyone help?

i think you should post this question on "Hardware Questions & Answers"

Here some links explained about adaptive anti aliasing(ati) and Transparency Anti Aliasing(nvidia)
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/..._aa_explained/1
http://www.pantherproducts.co.uk/Articles/...20Anti-Aliasing

in catalyst control pane that you can set 2x,4x etc.. and box, narrow tent, wide tent and edge detect is the level of antialiasing.
the adaptive antialiasing is under types of anti aliasing or method GPU used for calculation.
there are two main type/method:
1: Super Sampling
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supersampling
2: Multi sampling
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multisample_anti-aliasing

Super sampling give u great quality but required more GPU resources.
Multi sampling improve performance but scarifies quality, especially on fence or tree.

So GPU makers introduce proprietary method like adaptive AA and Transparencies AA.
These types of AA give u quality as Super sampling but use less GPU resources than SSAA.

In my experience, u should enable this type of AA. Set to narrow tent, and 4x would be nice.
