You are On a 5mb connection? I read in the CA forum thread that the actual game is around 15GB.

Hi Guys, i am kinda new to total war, i was just wondering, if there is a way we can view the size of the army in the enemy castle province before attacking it? I tried using Ninja, but when i click on the castle province, it has limited options, ie. assassinate, sabotage.. no option to spy and view the size of the army..
Also, is it possible to view the general's stats in an enemy castle province? this is so that we can check his loyalty before trying to buy him over using the metsuke..
One more thing, how come although i have a nanban port in my main province and several trading ports in my sub provinces, i can only have 2 trading partners by sea? that means, it doesn't benefit upgrading the trading ports in our sub provinces?

thanks for the help!

Based on my experience in last total war games, you can see the army inside the cite once you can put your spy in the city. The more army inside the city, the harder your spy to infiltrate the city. Always put your spy in enemy city earlier so the spy can gain experience.

Yea, that's why i always do, i guess that i need to click on the enemy castle once my ninja is nearby to see the actual size of the army. Will try that tonight.

Your ninja has an auto spying skill. As long as the Ninja is near enough, you can click on the army or castle to view the details. As far as I know, only the Ninja can actually give information details. Using Monks or Metsuke doesn't tell you anything extra if they are near the enemy. When you use your Ninja and click on the army or castle, it will list out the options, but moving the Ninja near them will be spying on them.

Regarding ports, if you have spare ports but the other faction does not. Then you can't trade by sea. Always check your Diplomacy tab, because every turn there might be wars between other factions that breaks of Trade Agreements which will free up their ports. But I do recommend you not to depend too much on trade income, it'll get lesser and lesser as you'll pretty much piss off everyone sooner or later.

Other then trade income, we earn through tax. usually at what levels do you set your taxes? I set it to normal, cause each time i set it higher the cilaka people revolt.. lol.. i find it so difficult to earn gold without trade... any other ways we can get income?
best thing, i each time go marry other clans daughter, for diplomacy, then got the title Womanizer pulak.. lol! And also, i have currently 7 provinces, but only 3 generals.. how can we get more general characters?

I think most important factor to get generals is to have spare gold. Every new general which offers their services or promoted from your armies, you will need to pay 1k gold recruiting fee. Unless it's your own children, then you no need pay.

This are some ways I used to gain gold.

1. Use your Ashigaru army without general and blitz through enemy territory which are lightly guarded and loot every place. Don't bother staying back to keep the city, just keep going non-stop until your army is cornered and destroyed. Big cities give a lot of gold from looting. Cities left to rebels will cause your enemies another headache (rebels are never same faction as previous occupiers). Use the gold to build a more stronger army (samurais) near your borders or build city improvements.

2. Because the improvements you can build are limited by castle size. Do not build so many military improvements for every castle. Like building a Yari Dojo, Sword Dojo and Archery Dojo in every castle. Instead just build the Yari dojo or Sword, the rest build markets and Sake dens which has income.

Captured cities might have already those military improvements, so unless you are using them, just burn them down and build a market instead to make money.

3. If you are dominating an enemy, always check in Diplomacy tab if they are willing to negotiate a peace treaty. Once they are willing, just ask for payments to settle the deal. Normally those with gold will give in quite easily, those without will not accept your offer. So once you see a 'High' chance of success, adjusts the demanded payments until it changes to 'Moderate', then you will know up to how much they are willing to pay.

Takeda faction actually paid 12k gold to me, when I managed to kill off their 2 stack army and take 3 provinces from them out of 6. Imagawa paid 8k gold when their leader's 2 stack army got killed off and I took 1 city from them. All for a peace treaty which they will break later on. Because once their army dies, their income suddenly spikes due to lack of army maintenance fees.

Marriage offers also can be added with gold, offer to take their daughter and ask them to pay some gold to you.

Cool, this way i can just carry my army in a fleet and attack provinces far away.. and loot their gold.. good tactic.. thanks for the tips mate.. maybe we can start multiplayer games soon.. what's your steam ID? if you don't mind i can add you in Steam.

this game.. no archer = loose dry.gif calvary are useless, having seige is over powerdered.  which ofcourse i like, and hard to reach there without having your troops being killed by half.. to reach that, now i have 7 battalion each has atleast 2 seige.. :C very sakit mau tahan haha.. but really having seige weapon can make yourself very powerful already unless they know where you put that seige weapon.. biggrin.gif

Usually i will hid them in forest, but if there is no place to hide i place 1 troops of bow samurai and naginata samurai biggrin.gif

Actually, it must be balanced. Once an apposing clan tried attacking me in my castle with a hell lot of samurai archers. i had an army about 0.7:1 ratio to the attacking clan.. i just used my katana and nagita samurai to charge them with my general spurring the army on.. and it was a massive victory.. so a balanced army is very important.. icon_rolleyes.gif
