Hey all,

I was wondering whether you could lend me a hand at picking out a new wireless router. I'm looking for one with a 802.11n capability to stream HD movies from my computer to my XBOX360. Know any recommendations?

So far I've found the D-Link DIR-615 Wireless N Router on CNET but I'm not sure if it's available in Malaysia.

there's the belkin N. Here's the link

or the Belkin N+ which has added USB port for harddrive to be used on the whole network

Tmnet Unifi uses DIR-615 and i can tell you this. It's crap. If you put more than 1 wireless device in close proximity with the other, both device will fail to connect.

I'm also looking for another router, but without the know-how to re-setup Unifi, i'm kinda stuck with it atm.

There no problem when you're online playing games, but when you're playing single player games the connection will die out. Its.. a hassle not being able to see the date i got the achievement...

I've used this Belkin N1 Vision router some years back. Looks good, but never liked the config user interface and also the firmware back then did not allow users to assign specific IP addresses to devices. This means each time the device connects to the router, it assigns a random IP to the device, making it a b1tch to port forward and do other networking stuff that requires a fixed IP. Not sure if the firmware has been updated since then, but I've never looked back since.

Not a big fan of D-Links. Never liked them due to their form factor, not because they're technically inferior in any way. Have read many good reviews of their routers. Nice, easy to understand config user interface.

Have been using several Netgear routers over the years, and have not had any major problems with them, except some of them just died for no reason. tongue.gif Their customer service and forums suck though. Currently using this one. Getting good performance from it and reliable wifi connections compared to the older Netgears. Also allows users to prioritize bandwidth for devices (e.g. game console) or functions (e.g. HD streaming). Also allows for dual SSID and also separate guest login SSID with restricted access to your home network. No complaints from me so far. U can also do that network shared hard drive thingy thru the USB port on the router, but performance wise a standalone NAS solution would offer better performance and reliability. This router has most of the functions you'd expect from any current-gen router.

I'm using puny 512kbps line haha

Only reason for me to get the router is the price for an Wireless N router.

One of my PC is 2 floors above and still working fine. of course that PC is using wireless N too.

it's the free modem Telekom gives out to all Unifi subscribers. That's already telling of it's intrinsic quality lol

Don't judge it that way, it's not a smart move.

D-Link is certified by Microsoft.
