After experimenting with my HD Ready LCD TV connected to my laptop to test 576p/i videos:
1- My GOM Player actually doing an excellent job in upscaling 576i/p videos using it's own decoder (FFMPEG also used).
2- The video is in MP4/H.264 1500 kbps.
3- Lower bitrate video also look good in my TV.
4- For HD videos, 1080p can't be played properly due to my laptop processor capacity. 720p excellent eventhough the bitrate is 2000-2500kbps on H.264.
My Questions:
1- Why SD channels on Astro B.yond's PQ is quite crap!!???
2- It's nice if we can know the specs of the decoder.
3- Why the upscaler of B.yond is like a crap!!???
4- Use a good software upscaler may be a solution..
5- What is the average bitrate of a SD channel??

Another imagination of mine...
If astro wants to use H.264 on SD channels, given that each transponder have 40mpbs:
Each transponder can fit approx. 25 Channels
Astro has 6 transponder in MEASAT 3A, doesn't know in MEASAT 3 (anyone can give info)... 2 are used...
the free 4 transponder can fit 100 channels..
IF astro wants to make a transition to h.264 to all customers,
they can use the free transponders they have and slowly phase out mpeg2 channels to "force" subscribers to change decoders.
I don't know how much this is cost but this is a long term investment for Astro to fit more channels but still maintain good PQ for HD...
In my prediction, Astro B.yond is the first step for Astro to move to H.264 for all channels... We don't know but we'll see...
Hope for any Astro personels read my post...

hope that someone can actually take this good words to the people who actually involve with Astro....
