You got your External HDD already or NOT????

Call them first and then once activated, just plug in any HDD to test it.

Then, let us know the result !!!!

don't waste your time. I can assure only WD my passport AV works. You end up damaging the HDD and/or the box later baru tahu. Been testing both pvr and byond with wd hdd since the last 2 months so trust me.
Er, you work for Astro like TallJustin? So you mean only that particular WD model runs well on Astro PVR?
Have you tested for other brands? blink.gif

other models wont work, even if it's the same brand.....
How did you manage to test it 2 months before it launch?
Could you explain further on why other HDD won't work?

other hdd wont work simply because the byond box software has be hardcoded to only accept specific model of the hdd. the wd my passport av  has been tested and proven to be very stable in every possible condition. I.e. Tested to be fully compatible. Also the fact that the power requirement is very stable and is able to work with non stop recording for a very long time.
*
This doesn't sound "compatible", it sound more like "you can only use this WD model...." shocking.gif

To me, this really doesn't make any sense....
Why Astro is limiting the customer for ext HDD choices? Some more only on a particular HDD size?
320GB?! How many we need to buy??
Even some laptop already equip with >320G already lo ...... cool2.gif

Hmmmm, I think I better hold-on first .....

Hi TallJustin & others sifu who already tested:

Some questions really need confirmation here:

1. Is it confirmed that, if we opt for the RM5 monthly ext HDD recording option, can only work with that particular 320G WD model?

2. On the power consumption issue, what about other ext HDD with individual power supply?

3. TJ mentioned some other ext HDD will reboot after long hours, can you share with us what models?

Sorry, this thread is really moving too fast and I really don't have time to read through every pages now. blush.gif

Really hope to confirm the above before making final decision, thanks in advance ! notworthy.gif

My humble opinion, pls go for the PVR I think its better and less headache ! Why complicate the matter afterall xtra RM5 and we have less work to do icon_rolleyes.gif
*
That's what I'm thinking now ......

Just called CS, can swap the current Byond box, RM300 & RM10/mthly, 500GB internal HDD same life-time warranty, even include HDD damages.
It sounds good to me, BUT now the biggest issue is, it will take about 2 weeks from now, some more need to lay another cable .....
I just patched up the hole and painted about 1 month+ ago, now another cabling work from roof and drill again?! blink.gif cry.gif

I really feel a bit of frustration now, thought I can record the WC while I'm away next week sad.gif

The headache will come when HDD is full, you don't know which one to delete  tongue.gif
& don't know about its reliability, hopefully not same like AstroMax.

btw what about the ownership of the new PVR. Is it belong to us or Astro (that's mean lifetime warranty). If it is the latter case, why do we need to pay RM300?
*
Good point, if cannot backup or copy to another HDD, then 500GB where got enough?!

Yaloh, if life-time warranty, after paying additional RM10 monthly, why we still have to pay the RM300 ?? hmm.gif

first time I heard harddish are designed to reboot it self, not very useful as a data storage

seagate last year actually manufactured  flaws hard drives  that can freeze for 30 second during operation and lost all the data, I bet it cost millions to retify
*
Me too, that's why I really want to know which brand & model.
I've been using ext HDD, both 3.5" & 2.5" on various brands all these while, but so far I never encounter such scenario.....

QUOTE(digilife @ Jun 2 2010, 10:25 AM)

but do we hav the time to watch them all since there will be more HD channels coming out
our time will be spent watching the newer ones and where we got time to watch the recorded ones doh.gif
*
Because of no time, that's why need to record many things to view later when free mah tongue.gif

I do keep my important recordings over the years, and I think I'll still been keeping & growing .... even those classic VCR or Hi8 video cam which I converted into DVD HDD those days ......
I like to watch & keep certain programs like NG, History, etc ....

You know, getting older, need to watch again just to refresh memory mah tongue.gif

.... 500GB translates to 100 HD hours or 290 SD hours. No enough?
Perhaps enough for 1 year la....
But for me, I don't think so .... since I like to record & KEEP, somemore mostly HD channels.....

QUOTE(digilife @ Jun 2 2010, 10:59 AM)
wat is TBs trays?..
It is something like this:
http://www.maximumpc.com/article/ask_doctor/terabyte_backup
can put multiple terabytes HDD onto it ....some can even support 8 or 10 arrays .....
I also saw an external USB3 twin 3.5" hot-plug device, no need computer, can just slot-in one already recorded HDD in front, then slot-in another empty HDD at the back, press a button and it just copy, the speed is so much faster than using PC shocking.gif

That's how my friends share among themselves over there .....

Also, with broadband so cheap & HD channels so many over there,
http://www.netvigator.com/netvigator2003/f...anchorLocation=
no wonder there are so many BT sites in HongKong ...

Wah, only away 1/2 month and now added almost another 80 pages blink.gif
Beside the PVR function early this month, hope I didn't miss out any new things about Byond, no time to read all la .. sweat.gif

Anywhere, I'm not sure whether this minor issue happen to anyone of you, last 2 days I noticed when I switch between channels, the TV screen change instantly, but the Byond box channel number display lag for about 1~5 seconds .... something wrong on my Byond ?! hmm.gif

I must say, this WC HD is very IMPRESSIVE !
I like to look at the slow-motion playback, look at their all kind of face expression, kicking/falling movement....
It's sooooo damn bloody clear & define, sweating also can see ... tongue.gif

It's truly a never-before WC in HD experince, definitely recommended thumbup.gif
