Question here guys

If I were to change my b.yond to a PVR is there a way to enjoy the full features by using the existing cable and not have to run two cables to the PVR?

I also have a MAX and there is a splitter booster installed will that be an issue?
*
pvr has 2 tuners, so 2 cables are required, if you want to forced it to use single cable, you need to install stacker-destacker, currently no stock from astro yet, will cost you extra RM300

splitter is not suitable for use with any byond box, because it need to be switch freely between 2 LO frequencies

if you insist on using splitter for both max and byond, when byond is tuned to HD channel, you max will not receive any channel, however both max and byond can watch SD channels with no interference

OK another scenario

If I get the PVR WITHOUT running the second cable will I be able to watch one channel and record another instead of capable of recording 2 simultaneous channels? so it operates similar to a MAX.

Then I will figure out the stacker/destacker later
*
you know what, I think you can use single cable via splitter to your PVR if you want to sacrifice pvr's ability to tune to both SD and HD channels simultaneously, so both tuners have to tune to either SD channels only or both tuners to HD channels only, try it and let us know

the idea is that when one tuner is tune to HD channels, it will generate 22KHz tone to force the LNB to select High LO frequency, then if your second tuner is also tune to HD channels, the there is no interference between 2 tuners because they are both tune to high satellite frequency, likewise for SD channels but this time no 22KHz is generated by the byond box so low LO frequency is selected and tune by both tuners

you only use single wire meh?????  blink.gif
Hoe come my PVR cannot use single wire at all?????
*
I think htc's installation is using splitter, 1 cable in, 2 cable out, but only work for all SD or all HD

work exactly like dual tuner max which only required single cable, but max has internal splitter

Hey Jalsrix, just thought it'd be worthwhile highlighting again as it seems that there seems some uncertainty about what exactly users with only one line must face. One users a couple pages back said he couldn't receive any HD channels at all.

Unfortunately not everyone can pull wiring through parallel to the existing line. In my case, the dish, located on my roof runs through 2 storeys to a centralized storeroom and then distributed out to my living room, all via false ceilings and cement render.

Should the stacker-destacker unit eliminate the need for a 2nd line, then I'm guessing it'd be the preferred option for most who dont want to hack and/or drill holes in external walls.
*
if you are feeding 2 cables into PVR box via a splitter, then both tuners can only tune to either ALL HD channels or ALL SD channels, for example if one tuner is tuning to HD channel, then tuner 2 can not tune to any SD channel

is that what you have experienced?

entry point 17 on my byond box shown 252 signal strength, yours 141 sounded kind of low, may be this is the transponder that broadcast ESPN HD, which explain why you have difficulty in receiving this channel, ask your installer to re-align your dish

there should be no problem switching from SD to HD channel, however when switching from HD to SD channels you may have blank screen

so compare to byond, byond PVR has different scale for signal strength?

for byond maximum signal strength seems to be 255, so if maximum signal strength for PVR is 150 then 141 should be OK, otherwise re-align dish for max signal strength

@Great_Cookie
entry point simply show a particular transponder signal receiving status, changing to different entry point will not affect anything at all to the box receiving capability

please note that by going through 2 output splitter, signal strength is reduced in half

one suggestion is to redo F-connector going in and out of splitter, may have metal contact problem

for your case to solve the problem fast fast, why don't you downgrade to byond box and add your own USB hard disk, do you really need 2 tuners?

the RM300 device is called stacker-destacker, at that price it is a steal, take it and run fast fast thumbup.gif

your 13 years old rg-6 cable however may need to be changed

yes your can use old dish with astro byond box

but watch out for the installation which share single dish with 2 decoders through splitter, it may interfere with SD channel reception

if astro can take advantage of PVR's hard disk and recording function, it will save a lot of transponders from repeatedly broadcasting same AOD episodes

don't know whether it is byond box or satellite feed problem, but channel 314 got annoying and very noticeable sudden discontinuity in audio lasted for about half a second, just like astro digital radio simulcast on FM frequency which sometime got similar audio pause when heard in car radio

I could agree more. But, now we know that B.yond decoder is 3DTV "ready".

the proper phrase is:
I couldn't agree more
or alternatively:
I agree with you completely and it wouldn't be possible for me to agree with you any more. LOL english lesson pulak!

by the way all HD decoders are HD3D ready, we do not even need the HDMI 1.4 specs cable and source device, HDMI 1.3 can support HD3D up to 1080i, as long as you have HDTV with 3D
