You are right.  Some say compare other countrieslah we are still cheap, the bottomline is other countries no such thing as one provider monopoly !For the quality and channel  content of wat we are getting I think RM10 above RM20 for HD shld be waived. Almost half of our fare is inhouse channels while the rest are Asian  versions and some Malaysianised .

Haiyahh.... Not bandwidth reduce again!! 8mbps is too big for Astro to squeeze more channels...

I'm impressed with DirecTV HD services:

1. 130 HD Channels and 30 more coming soon.
2. HD 3D in no extra charge.

But...

1. USD$10.00 per month. (promotion: free now)
2. Pay for the decoder upgrade if you subscribe to Choice package except online applications but free with Choice Extra and above.
3. HD DVR USD$7 per month

I think the DirecTV satellites must be like a football team to cater hundreds of Channels, too many channels in one provider... Until the user had to install 2 dishes for HD and 2 or 3 LNB's

It's the latest chip set so it would do 3D. Getting content then sending it to you is the tricky part

Yes, all HD channel doesn't have subtitle (yet?). Astro should use closed caption instead if they plan to add in future, like History Channel.

no subtitle for now... and I think its good too.. cos I prefer watching the movie rather than reading the subs...

Astro Must Comply With Principles Of Tariff Determination For Subscribers: Rais

KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 (Bernama) -- Astro All Asia Networks (Astro), as a licence holder which provides paid broadcast service, must comply with the principles of tariff determination for subscribers set by the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Information, Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said every increase in subscription rate would be analysed by MCMC to ensure it was necessary and reasonable.

"It is also analysed to ensure it is based on the cost incurred by the service provider and not merely for profit-making," he added.

He said this in a written answer to a question by Wee Choo Keong (Independent-Wangsa Maju) on measures taken by the ministry to ensure Astro subscribers were not burdened with monthly subscription fee and to give rebate to subscribers for the times when there was no reception.

Wee also wanted to know if Astro needed the ministry's approval to increase the monthly subscription fee.

Until March this year, there are seven providers of paid television service which have been given the licence to provide paid TV service besides Astro.

"Currently, Astro is the largest provider of the service in Malaysia. However, continuous monitoring will be carried out to ensure consumers are protected," he added.

On the rebate, Rais said the ministry welcomed the proposal, but said the matter had to be studied and considered by the ministry for the interests of all parties

astro coming to install tomorrow at 3PM? Anything I need to know?

sad to say goodbye to my PHILIPS ASTRO dish...

just have installion today

but when I put HDMI cable , the byond decoder straigh hang and cant receive any action which is change channel, switch off etc.....
sometime can show the graphic but 2-3 second no signal again....
now I only can watch via AV cable now, dunno y.....
sum1 know how the problem archive?

If you already have the byond decoder, why not just get a WD Passport AV and activate the PVR function?

Recorded Godfather Part II & III (6 hours - 3hrs for each) last Tuesday,

- 3hrs long HD movie had occupied 3GB in my WD Passport AV 320GB.
- Meaning 1 hour = 1 GB for HD movie. 
- B.yond PVR recorded using *.STR (extension) format.
- All *.STR files are copy protected. Try to copy into my Windows 7 PC but failed.
- Heard that STR format can be play on SUPER media player (google to find)
- Will try to play it on my WD TV live tonite.

No need, but to unplug it, u need to go to settings - and choose Unplug External Disk.
When you plug it back,  the decoder will reboot and after few minutes, back to normal.

Finally got it installed today. But sad to say the PVR only having the zoom mode and pillar box mode. No stretch and fit to screen options.

Hi... the HDD plug'n'play function is it only compatible with WD 320GB only? have anybody tried with other capacity n brands external HDDs?

hmm hope world cup comes with 5.1 audio lol
