QUOTE(jalsrix @ Jun 9 2010, 11:30 PM) Are you working for ASTRO ? yeah I work there3 years ago, I call ASTRO to complain about the subtitle and they say they will look into it. 3 years later, NOTHING has been done ! All talk and no action I am still viewing that pesky subtitles in AXN etc. it's actually a really complex issue to sync the subtitle metadata stream with the Shifting delay of our censored output and the technology to do it has not been around long. This is why if we broadcast the show from our playout centre we do use closed captioning as there is no delay to deal with. Also sometime the foreign channels burn the subs into their feed rather then us doing it. Lots of reasons for it. At least it's not like Cambodia where I saw 4 different languages simulateously all burnt into the feed. Literally over half the screen was covered in subtitles. |

QUOTE(jalsrix @ Jun 10 2010, 11:51 AM) We are more concern over the LOCAL subtitles that are burned over the screen. Most of the time, they are HUGE and cover up a lot of screen space. Just look at AXN ! Foreign subtitles are usually much smaller and only used when the speaker can't speak English well. So when the LOCAL and the foreign subtitles are written at the same time, it is a mess ! Furthermore, the LOCAL subtitles sometimes cover up important information like the Director name, actor names at the start or end of the show. By the way, will the upcoming AXN HD have those annoying subtitles just like AXN ? Those subtitles are coming from the channel and those channels are not local. The size of the font is not fully in our control. There will not be open captioned (burnt in) subtitles on HD channels. Once we get a way to handle the subtitle metadata stream going thru our delay systems we will offer closed caption subtitles on SD & HD. |

QUOTE(liew79 @ Jun 11 2010, 12:30 AM) hi, i need some helps. my astro byond start hang very frequently since las week. i need to reboot every time and it can last about 15minutes then hang again.... i did call up astra customer service and the lady told me it maybe due to i didn't put my set top box at standby mode, and the software didn't update... what version does it say it's on?And i followed the instruction to let my set top box at standby mode for more than 24hrs ed, problem still there, my set top box still hang.... anyone can help? Appreciated any input, thanks. Press the Home button and down the bottom of the screen is the version number. Make sure the decoder is well ventilated. Don't put something on top of it. Reboot is the first thing to try here. Without sounding rude are you putting the decoder in standby or are you turning the power off? Turning the power off will not trigger an upgrade. With your decoder on press the standby button on the remote. Within 5 minutes the box will go into software update mode. Updating could take another 5 minutes. If it's still not working then there is an issue with your decoder which should be replaced Added on June 11, 2010, 1:00 am QUOTE(kaspersky-fan @ Jun 10 2010, 08:48 AM) well... perhaps you can censor it by blurring out the whole picture and silent the audio rather than cut off the whole scene lol.... will that eliminate the sync issue? I think you would find that even more annoying.btw justin, any news on more HDDs support for byond recording? are you guys planning to stick with that WD 320 gb passport av only? Sorry no updates on the HHD list to give. Maybe a little down the track they will easy off the requirements. All it takes is a couple of you to complain about a fried decoder due to an un suitable HDD and it has huge affect on the brand and your opinion on the product. The WD My Passport AV was recommended by the decoder manufacturer as the only suitable HHD today to use and is something we have agreed with after doing our own test This post has been edited by TallJustin: Jun 11 2010, 01:00 AM |

Have you noticed the EPG is now offset by 3 or 5 minutes to reflect the delay setting of the channel. Should help a lot with recordings.

QUOTE(dannychen @ Jun 14 2010, 07:53 PM) I have noticed that certain channels' programme guide are not upto seven days. For example, I have tried to record the weekend's program on Saturday and Sunday. It seems like I can't see any programmes after this Friday. How to update the channel guide? yeah some channels just haven't given the details that far out.Justin, is the software version exactly the same with old B.Yond? Mine is v2.0s2 (1.0.0.001 May 21 2010). Don't know what you're asking about the software? What do you want to know? |

QUOTE(dannychen @ Jun 14 2010, 10:21 PM) let's askI'm on normal Astro B.yond and it's v2.0s, who has the PVR? Is it v2.0s too? Added on June 14, 2010, 11:15 pm QUOTE(AjkR06 @ Jun 14 2010, 08:29 PM) Some one, please help me... not all shows on HD are 5.1 so don't worry. the delay setting is different for everyone so pick which suits you best. The delay is caused by your HT processing time not the Astro b.yond box, so no point asking others what they set to, trust your ears.I have just setup the new HTiB But I can't hear any sound from rear left and right speaker... The channels that I tried to watch in DD was Nat Geo HD and WC HD... the sound also was too low and I only hear a bit of bass... My HTiB was Philips HTS 3373 And which one is the best Delay settings? I afraid to touch that.. so, default settings is used (20ms).. OMG! I will really appreciate your help... Any descent HT will let you change the level settings for individual speakers so push up centre, pull down SR and reduce bass if default settings is not good. QUOTE(aceedburn @ Jun 15 2010, 03:24 PM) bro justin, i'd like to request that the channel info behaviour for byond and byond pvr be changed. Currently, when we're on the channel banner, pressing a channel number changes the tv to that channel as opposed to the previous astro decoders which just change the banner info screen. That was a real neat feature and i don't know why it wasn't absorbed for use in the byond decoder. It's tiresome to scroll through so many channels to get the info currently. Kindly take this suggestion to your tech team. Thanks and regards it's been raised, the guys are looking into it.While I know it's not the same function entirely a little tip is to use the green button and look at your favourites or using the ch+ or ch- buttons acts as a page up down while using the arrow up down only moves one slot at a time Added on June 15, 2010, 10:02 pm QUOTE(Boy96 @ Jun 15 2010, 06:54 PM) nice graphic dudeThis post has been edited by TallJustin: Jun 15 2010, 10:02 PM |

Yes series linking has sarted but its very new and not across all channels. This is a huge step forward and it will quickly get better & better. I've gotta work hard on getting the channels to give me the right metadata to make it even more useful and user friendly.
Added on June 19, 2010, 5:29 am QUOTE(jalsrix @ Jun 19 2010, 03:37 AM) There are some channels such as AFC (Asian Food Channel) that are close caption, so there's NO excuse to glue horrific subtitles into AXN etc. we broadcast AFC from Astro's playout that's why they have close captions, all the ones with open are coming from out side of AstroThis post has been edited by TallJustin: Jun 19 2010, 05:29 AM |

QUOTE(tewwyble @ Jun 22 2010, 05:57 PM) Thanks for the input. However, the problem is so bad that i don't think it's a "lipsync" issue but an audio sync issue. Could it be my AVR? The audio is 2 seconds behind (setting up to 200ms still doesn't align the audio). Lipsync over 5.1 is be due to the processing time of your equipment downmixing the Dolby that is why you have a setting to change it to match your set upAnd it happens only to DD5.1 tracks. |

QUOTE(ColbyRaikkonen @ Jun 23 2010, 04:23 PM) 3) Series Link. NOT GOOD AT ALL when you don't have option to record weekly only, or daily....instead of record all the repeted episode so many times.... Hopefully someone from Astro can read this make improvement when necessary....... Tq Thanks for the honest feedback. Yes I need to improve the repeat recording issue. I'm working on a fix right now. In the mean time you can manually delete booked repeat episodes via the Planner. If you have any other technical suggestions or questions you can drop them on my blog (link in my sig line) as I don't always get to read all posts on here. Cheers Justin |
