i think astro try to even out the number of HD channel per package.

family : AXN HD, FxHD (pending to roll under variety)

Movie: HBO HD

Dynasty: Zhi Zun HD

Learning: Nat Geo HD, History HD

Sport: ASSP HD and ESPN HD

i expect there will be another one in variety, and another one in either movie or dynasty

cartoon HD/Non HD dont have the really difference like other channel.

I only watch Astro Wah Lai Toi on Dynasty package...  TVB Drama at 8PM and Off Pedder at 9PM

Other channels seems don't interested to me plus astro did not provide any English/Malay subtitles at all....

Yes. A higher bitrate would increase the PQ of both SD and HD.  But so far we have not seen that.

B.yond decoder can accept both modulation. If it cannot accept both modulation, sure you can't watch SD channels... 
But it will not convert MPEG 2 to MPEG 4... it will just upscale it according to your settings, such as 720p, 1080i...

I noticed today that PQ for SD channels are more better than before.... 
I don't sure whether my eye got problem or they have increase the bit rate for SD channels
Channels like Ria, TV3, Discovery, Wah lai Toi and AFC have good PQ today....
maybe your theory was true..., they're getting more efficient now....

WAT? WLT better? PQ quality for WLT has reduced tremendously ... I'm not sure if you guys noticed it... but its really really bad for WLT... Blurrer + more pixellation ....

Nope... before the additions of world cup channels, it was sharper and less pixellation... now, its like watching 384x576 at 1.8Mbps [previously WLT was 720 x576]

There are only two factors for the PQ. Source (MPEG2) -> B.yond Decoder Upscale = PQ.

If the source bitstream is too low, PQ is bad. If the decoder's upscaling algorithm is incompetent, PQ is bad.

But the B.yond decoder does not upconvert the MPEG2 stream of the SD channels to MPEG4 HD and then decode the signal.
