Happy to share that I have successfully opened my OCBC Singapore account with just my IC and Passport.

The process of applying through the app is a bit a pain in the ass, as needs to do several times for the app to accept my IC. Tips, the ic can be slightly outside the rectangle.

Took about 3 working days for the account to be approved. Was given Global Savings Account and Statement Savings Account.

Initial deposit required is just SGD1000, it can be from your Singaporean bank account or Malaysian bank account. I already have Maybank SG account. So this is very seamless.

Despite the T&C showing initial deposit for non-resident Statement Savings Account is SGD20k. I just needed to deposit SGD1k. Not sure if this only applies for Malaysians or what.

Regardless, even if the fall below fee for non-resident Statement Savings Account which is 20k is imposed as per T&C (no fee for first year), don't worry, we can go around this.  cool2.gif

Once you have access to the OCBC SG online banking, you can immediately apply for other accounts like OCBC 360 (minimum balance 3k) or OCBC Frank (minimum balance 1k), Monthly Savings account (minimum balance 500) or other OCBC SG accounts. I prefer OCBC 360. I will close Statement Savings Account after this.

So for all Malaysians residing in Malaysia, with no SG pass whatsoever. Right now we have 3 easy options for SG bank accounts (Maybank, CIMB and OCBC), everything done online, super easy.

For those who are interested to apply OCBC SG account, can use my referral code NLC9FDOS . You will get SGD15, and I will get SGD15.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Question:

OCBC 360 has a service fee of SGD2 if average daily balance for the month falls below SGD3,000, though it is waived for the first year. How do you intend to work around this? As someone earning MYR, it doesn't make sense to have ~RM10K+ just sitting in this account.

Otherwise, I feel that the main goal for opening this account as someone who is not working in SG to be able to have access to SG T-Bills. Is this correct?

Thanks, but I don't think Moomoo SG allows non Singpass'd Malaysians to open an account anymore. This is likely intentional since the launching of Moomoo MY.

However, opening a Moomoo US account is still possible.

Just to share my experience here so that others don't need to jump through the hoops (TLDR - Moomoo SG is now locked behind Singpass. Moomoo US is still open.):

The Moomoo SG site doesn't outright state that non Singpass'd Malaysians are not allowed, but per my experience, new users are blocked from opening an SG trading account.

1. A week ago, I created a user account and opened a trading account through the US site (Check the URL to know for sure whether it is SG/US/MY). Details including photo of IC submitted. Account verified and successfully opened on the same day.

2. Logged into the App (Note that there is only one universal Mobile App for Moomoo on the Playstore) the trading account view was enabled upon account verification, but no cash plus option. I managed to find the Fullterton SGD Fund and added it to my watchlist, but there was no option to subscribe to it.

3. Checked to the support to confirm that I had opened a US account. I then proceeded to close/deleted both user and trading account so that I could reuse my email/phone number for account creation on the SG site (took a few days)

4. Went to the SG site and created a user account there using email only (in an attempt to bypass any potential phone number region lock). On the site there are three options to open an SG trading account. If I remember correctly, they are Singaporean/PR, Foreigner with Work pass, and Other. I selected 'Other'.

Here's where the blocking came into effect. Although the site didn't explicitly say that I was non allowed to open an SG account, selecting 'Other' opens a popup prompting me to use App to open a trading account. This is in contrast to submitting the form through the Web like how it was for the US account.

And I've tried the other two options as well, same prompt. The only way to open a trading account on the SG site is through Singpass. All manual options will prompt to use the App.

5. I login with my new user account into App using email. The first thing I notice is a win RM10 promotion box to the side and that Bursa stocks exist in my watchlist. This is on a fresh account, no phone number. In other words, they have defaulted my login to the MY app screen, probably based on IP.

6. In App UI, there was no button to open a trading account. I eventually got confirmation from the support team that Malaysians are not allowed to open an SG trading account.

For point 5, maybe it could work with a VPN, but I'm not going to try it.

Going to try Tiger Brokers next.

You can switch to monthly saving account, only 500 SGD minimum required to avoid fall-below fees.

As for T-bills, not really. You will need a CDP account to purchase a T-bill, hence you will need an SG address.

Unless you manage to open one of your Spore banks with SG address (hence shown on the bank's statement), it's unlikely that you will be able to open a CDP account (alternatives include utility bills/phone bills with SG address but this is definitely more difficult as you will have to come to SG in person).

Ah, overlooked this account. Thanks, the monthly savings account is manageable. Will probably open this alongside the Global Savings Account once I accumulate enough RM for conversion.

Looks like T-bills are out of the question then. That is a shame. Thanks for highlighting this.

MYRSGD comparison post as of today afternoon

RM 3.494792 market mid-rate as verified by Wise

S$850 (closest approximiation of RM3k DuitNow Int transfer, since not allowed to key in MYR for DuitNow Int Transfer, only SGD amount)
S$8562 (simulate RM30k)

S$850 S$8562
DuitNow RM2979.32 RM30010.52 (for comparison only, since can only remit RM3k daily)
MoneyMatch RM2978.22 + RM5 RM29999.43 + RM5
sunway money RM2987.23 + RM8 RM30077.13 + RM8
wise RM2991.41 RM30135.65
bigpay RM2995.79 RM30135.54

This means that we can now cheaply convert smaller amounts on a monthly basis now as there is no fee. No more needing to accumulate RM10k before converting. Every month change 1k - 2k when receive salary also no problem. Right @Ramjade?

Tried this just now. I have an OCBC sg account on local +60 number, but duitnow can't find the number. Do I need to sign up something extra?

Have you closed your OCBC SG Statement Savings Account yet? I don't see any option to do so online. From the site's FAQ https://www.ocbc.com/personal-banking/help-...ccounts/general, it seems that the only ways to do so are to either:

1. Physically mail Accounting Closure Form,
2. Walk into a branch to do so

Anyone else have gone through this process? I opened my account around Nov last year so still have some waiver time, but need to start preparing.. lol.

Did not open 360 as it needs 3k minimum balance. SSA and GSA are given by default on new account creation, but SSA requires 1k min balance waived for first year. Eventually will need to close SSA to open the Monthly Savings Account which only requires SGD500 minimum balance.

Question now is whether SSA can be closed online? Or will need to physically mail in / walk into branch.

Hey Mr Gray, is it possible to generate a bank statement from the OCBC SG portal that includes both the account holder name and address? There doesn't seem to be any way to do this per my attempts.

The Print and Download buttons from the View Accounts page is only able to generate statements without account holder name nor address. Not useful when trying to prove that I'm the account holder.

On the other hand, the View Documents page only displays the Statement of Account with name and address, but this one is auto-generated at the end of the month. No way to generate on-demand from beginning of month to current date, meaning that I will need to wait until the end of the month in order to get a statement with my name and address on it?

Managed to link ocbc sg account with duitnow. A couple weeks later try to transfer SGD10 from MBB, but failed. Seems like bank has roadblock in place, need to physically go into bank to be interrogated and KYC. Maybe with new BNM regulations coming into play to clamp down on RM outflows.

Anyone experience this?

For prior months can generate the proper Statement PDF with bank header, your name and address. For current ongoing month can only generate a barebones excel or pdf without the above.

I received email from ocbc sg asking to confirm that I live in SG by doing one of the following:

a) Visiting any OCBC branch in Singapore and giving us your current Singapore residential address; or

b) Designating any of your OCBC accounts as your Singapore GIRO salary crediting account.

Looks like they are clamping down on non residents. ocbc sg is no longer viable.

CIMB Basic Savings Account without Annual Fee can be linked to CIMB Fastsaver SG.

A month ago, I went to complete my online application for CIMB BSA without AF as it required me to present documents. The bank officer go and change the type of account to Ecosave without my knowledge. When I ask why she did it, she lied to me that BSA without AF cannot be linked to CIMB SG account.

Probably, she has some quota to get people to sign up to that account as it comes with an annual fee of RM 15.
*
Wow, rm15 fee. The normal account is only rm8 a year.

I also got konned decades ago when I opened my MBB and Cimb SA. Every year take rm8 each.

Is it possible to open a BSA even though we already SA? Most likely will need to cancel all cards to relink it to BSA.

poooky this is what i remember (might be wrong)

  • MBB Malaysia, you can ask them to change the account type of your savings account. not sure of any fees
  • CIMB Malaysia, you cannot change any existing savings account to no-fees type. have to create a new BSA w/o fee
there's a reason why i never want to deal with CIMB unless i have to
*
Thanks, going to try convert to BSA. If cannot, I'll try opening new BSA then closing SA.
