Im opening basic saving account, but they r asking a lot of questions, like purpose of opening and ask me to provide a valid document to support it(wth?). Which like they are giving you trouble to open, complaint to CIMB and the customer service replied decision for opening account is all up to the branches(wth?!).
Guess i have to find an easier branch?

Just tell them you are just using as your first bank account. You don't have any bank account yet. For saving purpose.

hi, mind to share which branch you went and success got your account? I had the same problem.

I open cimb basic saving account online, and get sms I can go any branch to do verification and collect my acccount.
But I went to nearer branch (2 times!) 1st time saying its still in progress, 2nd time saying is rejected, and I called online CS and they say cant do anything, final approval is subject to branch decision. They just asked me try with other branch to try my luck.

The 1st branch told me I only can applied when I have valid reason,
1) doesn't has saving account before
2) jz change employer and your employer is using CIMB and only can bank in to CIMB account...
