Sorry can borrow this thread awhile? I have both Maybank SG (aka tiger head) and CIMB SG. Can I know in Msia in terms of ATM and branches which bank got more? E.g in Johor, KL, Penang these 3 big states for e.g. I am not going to withdraw cash from their ATM, branches of cuz but sometimes emergency arises may need so get info first as long time no visit Msia.

In Spore CIMB has very few ATM which can explain why they can offer the most competitive FD rates as lower operating cost (e.g infra, workers etc)

I'm curious to know which is better hence I ask sifus here. What advantage posb has over cimb sg and vice versa?

I was told to keep at least $500 in the posb account to avoid fees many years ago. Not aware that it allows for $0.1 in the account.

I was not sure if I want to transfer back to Malaysia later on. I'm thinking of getting a credit card from Singapore if that is possible as a way to use my savings for daily expenses in Malaysia. Not sure if that is even legal...

I have CIMB SG and strictly speaking it is not a pure 100% online account becuz it actually can issue ATM card but that time when I open whole Spore only got ONE ATM outside their branch and I still got that CIMB ATM card in my house gather dust hahaha. So realistically speaking it is an online account by most ppl experience.

So currently Malaysian only can open Maybank SG and CIMB SG bank account right if no working in SG?

Yes. Sg banks off limits 3xcwot maybe DBS or you are super rich. If you are poor like me, they won't even let you open account.

Seriously speaking, Maybank SG is actually more than sufficient for day-to-day living in SG. I use Maybank SG all the time. Can withdraw at designated ATMs once a while for a few weeks of spending.

Not many ATMs as compared to the 3 local banks, but still sufficient for daily livings. The Visa debit card is already very convenient.

The added benefit with DBS, apart from having a "safer" deposit account and its multicurrency feature, would be opening up the opportunity for DBS Vickers and subsciption to SG bonds/SGX IPO. But the later is contingent on the ability to open a CDP account. So if you just open a DBS multiplier and Vickers account, you will just get multicurrency account and another custodian brokerage account. You won't enjoy the benefit of assessing SG capital markets.

Maybe Ram has different ideas. But the above is my observation from 2 months of living in SG.

Avoid instarem. Expensive. No more cheap like last time. Stop using them years already.

For transfering MYR to SGD no one can beat Sunway money yet. I have been using Sunway money cause they have very good rates.
Maybe can look at Max money. Never look at their rates.

Your call. Once you have that account, you have access to a multicurrency account that you can accept/send USD, GBP, AUD, etc.
