Sorry can borrow this thread awhile? I have both Maybank SG (aka tiger head) and CIMB SG. Can I know in Msia in terms of ATM and branches which bank got more? E.g in Johor, KL, Penang these 3 big states for e.g. I am not going to withdraw cash from their ATM, branches of cuz but sometimes emergency arises may need so get info first as long time no visit Msia.

In Spore CIMB has very few ATM which can explain why they can offer the most competitive FD rates as lower operating cost (e.g infra, workers etc)
*
CIMB and Maybank i would say neck to neck for availability of ATM and branches in major towns. They are pretty much in the top 3, along with RHB. It peters down for other local banks, eg HLB PBB, then scattered sparsely like rare pokemon for foreign banks HSBC Citi SCB UOB.

CIMB machines usually easier for UX because less prone to be out of service than the tiger.

I'm curious to know which is better hence I ask sifus here. What advantage posb has over cimb sg and vice versa?
*
POSB/DBS every corner, nook, and alley is more common than a MBB ATM in MY.
It's really everywhere.

QUOTE(Toku @ Apr 22 2022, 11:56 AM)
I was told to keep at least $500 in the posb account to avoid fees many years ago. Not aware that it allows for $0.1 in the account.

I was not sure if I want to transfer back to Malaysia later on. I'm thinking of getting a credit card from Singapore if that is possible as a way to use my savings for daily expenses in Malaysia. Not sure if that is even legal...
*
DBS first account with us got 0 minimum IF apply online. (I just opened a DBS Multiplier).
It is best to hold a credit card in local currency IF you are in MY. Conversion rates may be a problem.

QUOTE(sgh @ Apr 22 2022, 04:58 PM)
I have CIMB SG and strictly speaking it is not a pure 100% online account becuz it actually can issue ATM card but that time when I open whole Spore only got ONE ATM outside their branch and I still got that CIMB ATM card in my house gather dust hahaha. So realistically speaking it is an online account by most ppl experience.
*
CIMB SG is just a method of doing the wire transfers without actually carrying wads of $100 around..
But all in all I think its too much hassle.
Better to just open a proper local bank acc, DBS, UOB, OCBC are pretty good in terms of ATM availability.
Once u have a debit card (local) getting around and paying with it (wave to pay) its pretty convenient, already can use all the cut queue self checkouts and order like a boss in McD.

So currently Malaysian only can open Maybank SG and CIMB SG bank account right if no working in SG?
*
Technically yes. if not working in SG its hard to open. Applications are being vetted stringently

QUOTE(Ramjade @ May 22 2022, 10:55 AM)
Yes. Sg banks off limits 3xcwot maybe DBS or you are super rich. If you are poor like me, they won't even let you open account.
*
Heck even with IPA letter also hard mode to open bangwall.gif
That's why end up with DBS coz at least can use IC+IPA+company proof of address
Which saved a bit of time as compared to waiting for physical EP card

Seriously speaking, Maybank SG is actually more than sufficient for day-to-day living in SG. I use Maybank SG all the time. Can withdraw at designated ATMs once a while for a few weeks of spending.

Not many ATMs as compared to the 3 local banks, but still sufficient for daily livings. The Visa debit card is already very convenient.

The added benefit with DBS, apart from having a "safer" deposit account and its multicurrency feature, would be opening up the opportunity for DBS Vickers and subsciption to SG bonds/SGX IPO. But the later is contingent on the ability to open a CDP account. So if you just open a DBS multiplier and Vickers account, you will just get multicurrency account and another custodian brokerage account. You won't enjoy the benefit of assessing SG capital markets.

SG local banks' FD rates are miserable...

Maybe Ram has different ideas. But the above is my observation from 2 months of living in SG. smile.gif
*
DBS still more convenient if you stay in SG
Every nook and cranny u anyhow walk walk also will suddenly have a standalone DBS/POSB ATM one

All those Msian bank (MBB CIMB) need to work in CBD area to make it worthwhile. Else it will also incur time and cost to travel there just to withdraw money.

For transfering MYR to SGD no one can beat Sunway money yet. I have been using Sunway money cause they have very good rates.
Maybe can look at Max money. Never look at their rates.
*
Oh it doesn't work the other way. (SGD to MYR) laugh.gif

Your call. Once you have that account, you have access to a multicurrency account that you can accept/send USD, GBP, AUD, etc.

MAS should just fine DBS...

Really shitty... How many times have they failed this year?

This time even ATMs are affected. You literally have to rob a bank to get your money...
