I submit and apply on friday night.
singpore office call me on monday
and today i already got the account linked to my CIMb.

super fast.
*
may i know your chronology?

1. I applied on aug 28.
2. get email about the application, got the account number.
3. I proceed to link sg account from cimb clicks Malaysia.
4. i didn't receive any call. I'm waiting for the activation code to register cimb clicks sg.
5. still nothing till today.
6. i proceed to transfer 5sgd from my to sg for test to see if my account is "active". It was successful. I did it a few hours ago.

what did you do before you receive the call?
still waiting for the call. a bit reluctant to transfer sgd1k straight unless told so that i need to do it before i get my sg clicks activation code.

You mentioned you received the email right? Inside should have mentioned you need to fund your account for account activation. The email also stated the clicks activation code will be sent AFTER account is activated.
*
yeah. seems to indicate so in the email.
but its different from what my wife experience is last year. she got a phone call and ask her to transfer before getting the activation code.
so i thought of asking.

hopefully Koranshita can confirm too. i don't have issue with that. just better to seek clarity.
since I'll be asking my contact in sg to transfer the sgd1k

thanks for your response too.

The call is most asking to verify before approve your account. If it's already shown in cimbclick and you are able to transfer the min to that account. No call not much of issue

Anyhow, I transfer the 1k even before they call me. Lol I straight  bank in using 3rd party platform once I got the email and account number.
*
so can you share your sequeuence?
so you:
1. got the email notification on signup
2. transfer the money sgd1k (not direct from cimb my or any sg bank under your name)
3. got the call
4. got the activation code

correct?

if you want to wait for CS to call you for the transaction, you can always initiate a call/mail to confirm
https://www.cimb.com.sg/en/personal/help-su...contact-us.html

But i suggest you can go ahead transferring your money, as the steps have been described clearly in the email/page. Worse case scenario(which is unlikely), if they declined your account application, the money will be refunded to MY acc.
*
yeah. i did email them right after i post here yesterday.
thanks for the suggestion

my step might be no accurate as most ppl get the call and see the account in CIMB only transfer 1K. I do terbalik, belum approve already bank in.. which is dangerous also
*
Thank you. I understand that.
As of now, still no call and reply to my email yet. I'll proceed with transferring sgd1k via 3rd party sg bank account

The sgd1k must come from your own bank account in sg or from CIMB my.

If you don't want to pay sgd1k, pay sgd1.00 using cimb my and pay the remaining sgd999.00 using fintech.
*
yeap..i did transfer sgd5 from my cimb MY.

I thought Basic Savings Account falls under no questions asked category, as long as you go to the branch near where your IC address is?
*
not anymore.
apparently you tell them you want save, they will reject you.
the almost sure way is "ï want to invest".
then datang la diorang recommend you beli principal fund etc. and buka saving for you. shakehead.gif

I already have Maybank SG and MY. So you suggest me to create CIMB SG but temporarily don't link with CIMB MY until say in the future I start working?

Meanwhile just fund CIMB SG from Maybank SG should be fine?
*
actually what you want to do?
since you already have SG bank acc.

Open CIMB SG in preparation for remittance from IBKR to SG bank account. There is no inward remittance charge for such transfer for CIMB SG. But for Maybank SG a charge of 10 SGD per transaction is levied.

i see..
okay. if you trace back, you can see i just open up my SG CIMB too.
i believe they way it works are:
1. if you have CIMB MY, its easier to convince them to open CIMB SG for you, unless you work in SG. that's how we that are not working in SG get an SG bank account. not sure how you get your Maybank SG.
2. like CIMB MY, most of the time CIMB SG will reject you, unless you say for "investment".
3. as for your case, I'm not sure since you are studying? not sure if you can tell them investing. but don't worry that the reason is different for SG and MY. its two different thing and i don't think they will sync up info anyway. plus my age and income tax no dictate I'm working. so again, not sure about your case.

I got my Maybank SG smoothly, just print forms, fill it and tell them honestly "do investment", then it got approved. (Notice the different with "CIMB MY", you say "investment" with student status it is an immediate "no", at least from the "first branch" of CIMB, not sure how things are with CIMB SG yet).

Maybank MY opened while I study at college, so I was on solid grounds back then, with offer letter from college, scholarships etc.

Yes still studying, but this time in HK uni. Offer letters are of no help, so as Student ID since they are all evidences/proofs based in HK. The only "rather stupid" reason I can think out of my mind yesterday was "facilitate transfer of funds between HK and MY" and to further convince/persuade them, gave some terrible excuses like "fx rates are good...". I also added my father has account at CIMB so "service is nice"...

I don't like to cheat, not really considered cheating anyway since the funds from HK will some day come back here, though that is not the main purpose.

I will wait for some time first before going on with CIMB SG, still busy with air tickets and quarantine hotel bookings.
*
no. i said that usually the sure way to get an acc is to say investment.
but I'm not sure about your case since you are student.

in any case, you can try first, or wait first. up to you smile.gif
