Lol what kind of reply is that  laugh.gif  brows.gif  tongue.gif

The reply may sound sarcastic, but isn't that the truth ?

If the reason is for banking and investment, which is the bank's business, the bank has no reason to reject the application. Just tell them the real reason with no fear.

The fact that she (and many here) doesn't know the reasons, it shows that they don't even know why they want a Singapore bank account. The real reason is "just in case I cannot open one in the future". Same as the 2hour long queue we see in front of a newly opened "in thing" shop. Scared to be left behind

Ya loh, even after she get the account opened, she will not make use of it. Why should the bank open an account with no transaction in it ? Maintaining an account cost money to the bank. If they cannot make money from you, they will reject.

From account holder point of view, open an account without a purpose will also cost money/time.

I can see more and more people open overseas bank account for the sake of "not being left behind" as "everybody is doing it". They don't really know whether they need it. Nor do they know there are much simpler alternative like investment in foreign stock market thru local platform. Much much simpler to get into non-RM stock investment which is a good hedge against RM depreciation.

My view is if you are just a small timer, look into local banks/brokers. Much easier and hassle free. Transaction cost is just a very minor part of your outlay. The savings won't make a big difference compare to the hassle of opening an overseas account.

*Ouch*

The truth hurts. laugh.gif So true. I've had Bank Managers tell me directly in the face before that they are not interested in letting you open an account if you plan to main a few hundred dollars or thousands in their bank account.

Yes, but then they will try to sell you theirsavings /investment/ insurance plans on the spot before opening a new account from you. grin.gif
They will then tell you they will need to justify in letting you open an account with them. The above reasons would do just fine.

Good ones will reject your application outright, citing you dont have the proper documents to support opening an account. nod.gif

u have better chance, cuz i ***gues*** u submitted before they increase it?
i can only hope/pray so, otherwise very troublesome... like the Chinese saying, two heads also don't reach shore.

i can't imagine the hassle and time require to have them return me the cheque and convert it back to MYR, plus possible losses due to exchange rate. at the same time, i don't feel like going to open anymore if it requires $S5k initial deposit, the bank's exchange rate is blood sucking, i just stick with my other SG bank acc without debit card.

will post the status here once i get it.

Anything online can ... tranfer funds in , transfer funds out.. online banking stuff is not an issue.

only that i curious call them ask if I can use the DEBIT CARD for shopping... and if i put into MAYBANK singapore atm for withdrawal she say cannot. Need walk into MBB SG to activate pin no.

however can withdraw from MSIA ATM using the pin that was mail to us.
i hv not test this out.

For some Malaysian debit cards, we need to key in temporary PIN number in ATM, and change the PIN number of debit card to our own preferred PIN number.

But, I am unsure whether it is applicable for Maybank Singapore debit card or not.

If we can use Maybank Singapore debit card to withdraw cash in any Maybank Malaysia ATM, can we use Maybank Malaysia ATM to set a new PIN number for our Maybank Singapore debit card? hmm.gif elea88, maybe you are unsure of this as well. Perhaps, some other iSavvy account users here have tried it before.

no, it's just like you using MBB MY debit in CIMB MY, you can withdraw cash, but not change the PIN.
elea88 CS gave you wrong info. that so called temp PIN can be used at any ATM worldwide with Cirrus/Maestro logo.

Ok, you have a point, and I agree with you, lamode.

Guess that the only way to change the pin number of our Maybank Singapore debit card is go down to Singapore, to any Maybank Singapore ATM. sad.gif

Still, changing the PIN number of our Maybank Singapore debit card is not much of a concern to us, since we need mainly the Internet banking access of iSavvy saving account.
