*

I went to cimb but they say cant open from here
*
Of course cannot. The only bank which let you open from here are Maybank, SCB, HSBC, Citibank. Other than Maybank the other 3 requires you to have a priority banking with them and their SG counterpart.

Bro.. you sure these two above banks allow bank account opening in SG from here?
*
For SCB yes. I asked my SCB branch. They told us we cannot help you to open SG account unless you are priority customer with us and is willing to be priority customer with SCB SG.

For Citibank, should be the same. I do not have any account or anything with them but based on previous lowyat forum member post saying that's the only way.

Not sure about SCB My, but for SCB Sg you would need to maintain a SGD $200k with them to enjoy priority banking.
*
I know that's why the SCB route is beyond me. Heck I can't even have priority banking with any MY banks (they need RM250k - don't have the moooo sad.gif )

Not really. If you need to open another account, even with Maybank, for example a new FD placement or a trading account, you will still need to furnish your TIN number. So there is no running away.  tongue.gif

When are you going to spend me Hooters?
*
How come you know so much about SG banking sector? hmm.gif

Even if you already have account with the bank still need to show them TIN meh?

Nah.... I dont know much about SG banking.  rolleyes.gif  Just guessing only.

Yes. Like mentioned, new placement like FDs or a different trading account is considered a new account.

Sifu, care to share which SG bank(s) does not charge money for depositing foreign currency notes (eg USD, AUD, HKD, GBP, etc...)

I thought you already have the DBS MCA? IMO thats the best already.
*
That's expensive. DBS 1.5% - 3..x% Other bank charge 1% for deposit foreign currency notes. If got cheaper than 1%, or free I would like to know.

Why do u wan bank in foreign currency notes when you can deposit sgd into your acc and convert into respective currency you wish. Due to the unattractive bank exchange rate ?
*
Money changer rate will always beat bank's rate. If you can deposit foreign notes, even with them charging you for depositing those notes, you can save a little. Few times doing that might be enough to cover for 1 round of brokerage fees by Maybank KE. biggrin.gif So far I checked that OCBC Global Currency does not have any fall below fees (not stated int heir brochure) but they need min 5000 units of whatever currency you want to deposit and charge 1% for foreign notes deposit vs DBS at 1.5% for USD and increasing for others (HKD, AUD).

Cimb - Transfer money into SG/fund Maybank account, no fall below fees.
OCBC - replace DBS MCA (if really no fall below fees, extra ammo for my warchest), transfer money to HK/AU - using Transferwise (the above will save on banking charges)
Maybank- Maybank KE and Maybank account

So from the above, only account need to maintain is Maybank at SGD500 and their fall below fees is cheap at SGD2/month if OCBC does come through.

But need to plan this step carefully when I start working. The thing is whether can open or not. sad.gif

That is good. Malaysia banks have this limitation whereby no transaction can be performed via online banking.

Maybank SG can opt to have USD currency or it is only SGD?

Indonesian banks have multicurrency account whereby they will credit the same currency as when it is sent without conversion until you advise them to convert into local.
*
Er what nonsense are you talking about? Malaysian banks can transfer foreign funds online. Just depend on the bank. Some can some cannot.
Some give max rm10k, some rm30k/day.

All malaysian banks have foreign account just that they don't accept other currency notes. You want to open USD account, can. Bring RM/deduct rm from your account.

Don't tell me indon let you deposit USD in cash...

About maybank SG multi currency account, they only have single foreign currency. If want multi currency
(i) open multi single foreign currency account
(ii) check out DBS, UOB, OCBC. Hsbc

Some bank you can even withdraw usd or sgd via atm. smile.gif
