Apart from being 40nm RSX chip, rather than the previously presumed 45nm, there a few advantages from the redesigned PS3's GPU. First off, it's the reduced power consumption which leads to less heat being produced and thus requiring less cooling. As an effect, the possibility of YLOD is mimimised. This is definitely a good news for PS3 users as this issue has been plaguing us in the past.

On a separate entity, the new model’s power supply weighs 30g less. Sony makes a couple of bucks off as a number of adjoining chips around the RSX have been removed, no doubt resulting in significant cost reductions. Profit in the making for Sony, finally?

Based on wiki here, the GPU is 40nm and the CPU is 45nm. I already got mine for the new one But I dunno what's the difference, just know that less power consume. Anything else?
