Juz bought a Bravia NX5 KLV-32NX500 LCD TV... love it due to the simplistic Monolithic Design... however i was told by my LCD bracket installer (an electronics seller too) that this design comes with a MAJOR flaw... a flaw that causes fungus to grow between the glass and LCD screen!!! shocking.gif

this is due to the humid & tropical condition in Malaysia. Unlike other countries where the climate is dry, the Monolithic Design TVs should be fine... however in tropical country like Malaysia, dust and moisture can cause fungus to grow!!!

Errmm... not too sure about fungus grow in Sony's Monolithic Concept yet but there were examples from previous LG LCD TVs which feature similar concept too! never heard about this issue but i was really shocked to hear tat guy told me this... i don wana risk fungus to grow in my TV, plan to get a vacuum cleaner tomolo... sad.gif

anyone had encountered this before? please share your experience regarding LCD TVs and fungus... thanks!

just get some silica gel or thirsty hippo and put in at the side of the TV if u really want to ensure no moist is present.

I smell a conflict of interest here.

Even if it's true, you think your LCD screen doesn't collect dust? That's why it's called maintenance.

dont think that fungus can actually grow there. Fungus needs cool and moist place to grow. I think that TVs are hot...

Unless you have fungus growing in your house now then you might have that problem. If not then should be ok...

not sure if u guys know much bout this concept, coz the design seems to have two layers... one piece of glass and inside is the LCD... meaning that there is a gap between the glass and LCD.

My LCD bracket installer had a point though coz TVs (including LCD TVs) create static and thus attracting dust, possibly moisture... when dust & moisture mix, fungus could grow...

There are air intakes along the side/edge of the Bravia NX5 model, therefore dust and moisture can be easily absorbed into the gap between the glass & LCD... i started to see 1 / 2 dust lying INSIDE the gap already!!! sad.gif

Mikeshashimi: yea i oredi put 2 hippos next to the LCD already... cant afford to let fungus to grow inside, love it way too much!!! sweat.gif

writesimply: i understand that, tats why i plan to buy vacuum cleaner to suck the potential dust & moisture which could cause fungus lorrr...

Bishop: well, lets hope for the best... LG has such problem previously with the similar concept, hopefully Sony wont repeat the same issue again...
