Where can I find silk and steel strings for the guitar? I went to Midvalley yesterday. The guy at Guitar Collection didn't know what it was and the guy at Rhapsody didn't know what it was either.

Could you please share which site you bought it from. I don't mind buying online as long as they are willing to send it to Malaysia. |

Hi, I'm also wondering where can I get these.
(Is there a rule against opening old trades? I read the rules and didn't come across one like that, but if I did miss it, do tell.) I encountered the same problem like fatedquest where Silk and Steel strings (for the Acoustic Guitar) was quite unknown to the guitar shops I visited. But well-known brands like Martin and D'Addario do have them. fatedquest's question was 4 years ago, so I'm wondering if anyone now knows where to get them in Malaysia? I play Gypsy Jazz and this Silk & Steel is the type of string used by Django Reinhardt in the late 30's. Gypsy Jazz is such an alien genre here in Malaysia, not only guitar you must buy from oversea... the string as well. It took me over a month to get a set of string ordered from ebay.
Luckily I managed to found this alternative Gally Silk & String there at Guitar Empire Indah Parade. This string is more for guys who play Folk music instead of Gypsy Jazz. Less tension, soft and the sound is a lil bit mellow. But not loud enough for Gypsy Jazz. Check out the string sound on my Gypsy Guitar:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HexxVjpVbbY This post has been edited by kakamal: Feb 26 2015, 09:41 AM |

QUOTE(jejari7 @ Feb 25 2015, 01:32 PM) Hey there thanks for the compliment. There are hell a lot of kool 'mounuche' to recommend to. But my favourite Gypsy Jazz guitarist are Angelo Debarre, John Jorgenson and Fapy Lafertin . The rest like Birelli Lagrene, Stochelo Rosenberg, Romane, Joscho Stephan etc are good too but they are more on skills instead of melodic. If you more preferred the like of what I playing above, you better listen to Gypsy Valse instead of Gypsy Jazz. Some recommendation:- Angelo Debarre - La Gitane Angelo Debarre - Valse De Bamboula Calliston - Troublant Bolero Dorado Schmitt - Bossa Dorado Jimmy Rosenberg - Made For Wesley John Jorgenson - Man of Mystery John Jorgenson - Valse De Samois Joscho Stephan - Made in France Stephane Wrembel - Bistro Fada Stochelo Rosenberg - I Will Wait for You The Rosenberg Trio - Choti The Rosenberg Trio - Clair De Lune The Rosenberg Trio - Valse A Rosenthal Yorgui Loeffler - Boucin’ Around Yorgui Loeffler - Valse Folle Haha.. enjoy |

Hey there. Nice playing! I don't really listen to that genre, but I certainly know I can't play that well, haha.
Btw, for anyone who's looking for Silk and Steel strings, or other strings by D'Addario that is shown on their website but not sold in Malaysia, I've asked Guitar Store whether I could order from them, and they said yes. If you want to order by post also can. Even though it's not on their Estore website, you can ask the person managing the Estore. If I'm not wrong, it looks something like a chat window. And you can arrange your purchase accordingly. |

Hey kotobuki thanks for the useful info. Yes of course we can order almost anything from them but still we gotta to wait for the stock coming probably 2-4 weeks. And based on my past experience I've spent less by ordering the string through ebay myself.
I only pay RM64 plus shipping for a set of Argentine string while they quoted me RM80 (not Guitar store). |
