engine oil in turbocharged engines evaporate faster as turbo needs engine oil to lubricate all the parts and spin the turbine blade. true?
*
as salam,

that's why you need an engine oil that design for that purpose e.g turbo, supercharge...

there are specific engine oil for turbo/supercharge engine.....e.g Castrol CR8, Petro Canada Duron E,XL,E-XL, Pennzoil Long Life and others that are specific for that...

look also for higher FLASH POINT and higher Viscosity Index....

correct me if i'm wrong...

as salam,

for BLM, any 15w-40, 10w40, 20w-50, 15w50, 5w-30 will serve well...as long as ORIGINAL..

still depend on what kind of drive you're.....if town driving, kind a STOP AND GO style of driving, trafic jam, opt for 5w-30 or 10w-40 will do well...

for highway, long distance, 10w-40, 20w50, 15w-50, 15w-40 will do the job

find a good oil, with high FLASH POINT and VISCOSITY INDEX value....you're car will be fine

as salam,

Extended Drain Interval

the SECRET lie inside the BASE OIL.....whether you using the 75% base oil or the 99.9% Pure Base Oil....

the pure the base oil, the longer the DI....coz the oil tend to hold the oil from degraded and less contamination

This is Kampung theory. Never seen such thing mentioned in official document from car manufacturer or engine oil manufacturer or professional car magazine.
*
Kampung theory??

try this:

http://lubricants.petro-canada.ca/resource...02E&language=en

""Petro-Canada’s HT Severe Hydrocracking makes the difference
Conventional processing such as solvent refining can result in a base oil that is 70-85% pure and is pale yellow or amber in colour.

The HT purity process used by Petro-Canada produces crystal-clear, 99.9% pure base oils that clearly outperform traditional solvent-refined materials. Petro-Canada offers a range of PURITY™ base oils that:

Have a high viscosity index (VHVI fluids have a Very High Viscosity Index)
Deliver synthetic product performance at a lower cost
Have low volatility, high thermal and oxidative stability, and excellent low temperature capabilities""

i've test it on my car...already 11,000km and still going...the engine still ok, the EO also smooth and not so blackey...

that's why it is depend on the BASE OIL....the PURE the Base Oil, the higher the Viscosity Index..

and secondly is the ADDITIVE....

Can I use fully synthetic  oil in gear box?
I saw there is a brand fully synthetic GB oil on sell in a spare part shop, it cost RM100+ for 3 litter.
But the shopkeeper said that fully synthetic oil suitable for heavy vehicle only. (big car and 4 wheel drive car)
Not suitable for small car like Kenari, Kelisa, proton saga...etc
*
as salam,

ATF or Manual??

ATF got, Manual also got the Synthetic and Fully Synthetic(like Duradrive MV)....

not true lah only for heavy vehicle only...

High Temperature High Stress or HTHS? There are reports Mineral Oil has higher HTHS than Synthetic.
*
requesting for correcting sir

HTHS = High Temperature High Shear....

not all company achieve this kind of oil....

Petro-Canada got it...

still there are so rarely case[cool.gif involving damage of the catalytic converter because of using the high ZDDP oil...very2 rare...

same like when u not using the OEM oil filter for ur case...as long as u change it between interval or get the good one, there is no worry

I see. You've got good knowledge about engine lubricants. So, stick up with 5W30 better? is Catrol 10W40 magnatec a good oil for myvi leh? anyone still using them?
*
as for Myvi, better stick to 5w30 or 10w30....good for small engine...find a very reliable brand....

all engine oil are differentiate not by their price, but on their base oil and additive package...

You are using Diesel Engine Specified Engine oil for your car? You car is Diesel engine or Petrol Engine?
*
looks like i have a gang here who also using the HDEO on car and bike...cheers sir pumpman....

i'm also the proud users of HDEO since 2009....

it is not specified for diesel sir...because it got the API S* certified also....people are misunderstood and misleading them as diesel specified oil....

since i'm tried it back in 2009, my engine run smooth....also make my engine bay clean....as my observation on the tappet area...

also it gave me an extended drain interval...last time, when use semi syn oil, i got like 5000km only....but with mineral base delvac mx,valvoline premium blue, duron e, it gave me 10000km drain interval...

you should tried it...it wont harm your engine....

As salam,

HDEO harming our engine?no evidence...my friend also my sifu are using it for 15 years both on car and motorbike...

I have read so many forum in US ans europe..they using it even for drag race, dirtbike race...

Every engine oil must have 10 basic additives either passanger car engine oil or hdeo...

Again i'm not encourage all of you using hdeo, but give a try...delvac 1300,pennzoil longlife,bhp2000,valvoline premium blue to name a few..most of them are API S certified...

For me,after 3 years using it on my Saga BLM,i'm very satisfied...

Didn't i mention i got a friend who using mineral hdeo who manage to revv up to 13000 rpm and still smooth after that...

I think it is because it is a Multigrade Engine oil, so it need TBN content. Correct me if I am wrong.
*
no.....even monograde oil have the TBN...but a bit low...coz the additive are not enough to get the higher TBN...(but HDEO monograde got good TBN)....

TBN is important to clean up your engine.....the higher the better...but not more than 12...

as salam,

either 5000km,10000km,15000km or even 20000km OCI, all are depend on what type of base oil been use by manufacturer.....the rule is simple....the pure the base oil, the better the oil retain it fresh property...

also depend from where is the additive package come from??the good the additive package, the better the engine oil..

last time using synthetic blend one, i manage to get 17000km....so i sending the oil for UOA(via my sifu)....and the result was unbelievable...the oil still can be use actually, the VI not degrade so much, the TBN also in good number, the viscosity/grade is not degrade so much.... thumbup.gif

what are your engine oil base oil purity?? whistling.gif

Assuming.....

Synthetic Base Oil last 100,000-km.

Additives last 10,000 km.

When do you change engine oil?

There is your answer as to which factor determines when to change engine oil
*
that's why i mention before it depend from which company the additive are come from....

pure base oil + good additive package will give longer OCI for your EO....and superb performance for the engine...

and it is also depend on how your engine feel after reach at certain KM...if it still smooth and give the performance you want, then why not give a extended OCI??

if you say the additive can last 10000km, then why some of the engine oil are still give the good result and performance to the engine after reach more than 10000km??

i have a friend using a good mineral oil for 20000km OCI....4 times already repeat that OCI....he is very satisfied with the eo...

engine oil especially from very2 good and realiable brand maker are specialy blend with high performance additive that can last longer...it is not from the early age of engine oil are invented....the technology are keep improve and the engineer and tribologist are doing what their capable of in produce some of the most performance EO

then again, grab one of the most reliable name in EO, then give a try....brand like Motul, Redline, Torco, Liqui Moly and others are known to give a very good OCI and extended drain interval....

sorry bai... i would stick to car manufacturer's recommended oci .
assuming you use a reliable engine oil ( it might not be the best in the market) , it should be able to serve you based on the recommended oci. which is by mileage or duration of months. .

at the end of the day, assuming your car under warranty, the warranty is provided by the car manufacturer , not the oil manufacturer. so. of course follow what car manufacturer say
*
why always "Assuming??"....why not give the real life field test??

but yes i agree...."recommended by OEM"....

like Proton, they state for Saga BLM, OCI is every 10000km.....then if you use, cheapo mineral oil, are you dare to do that??

but again, warranty IF ONLY YOU SERVICE at SC....what if you already do your service at bengkel bawah pokok??your waranty already void....what ep are the workshop selling you??original or fake??if original, then it is ok to follow...

a fake one surely can't last like what the OEM recommended...

everything is depend on experience and field test....you'll never know if you never try....once you try, you'll know the differences....

that's why, i'm testing any kind what people say myth, lie or not proven.....cooking oil in engine??done...moth ball as fuel saver??done...hdeo??done....more than 10000km oil myth??done...

oil manufacturer warranty??i know one company who give non-nonsense warranty of their engine oil...because they believe in their eo...

is it someone has x-stock a lot of 10/30 oil and sl rating is obsolete soon ?
*
aiyark....cant lah bro....have to zip my mouth....sorry.

SL rating wont be obsolete since we still can use the API SG rating somemore....(lots of zddp also).... brows.gif

from what i observe and research, nowadays car company are opt to 5W30 grade oil.....even the 2.4 Camry are ok with that..not to mention my friend got Teana which is service using the 0w30 at the Nissan SC...
