QUOTE(Optiplex330 @ Apr 24 2012, 04:30 PM) When to change oil also depends on how big is your oil sump. Assuming everything the same, surely one with oil sump of 10 liters capacity will last twice as long as one with 5 liter capacity. That's why European car usually have bigger oil sump. QUOTE(ThunderGod_Cid @ Apr 24 2012, 05:08 PM) I'd agree with Optiplex330. Usually recommend my customers to change at longer intervals if they use like 6-7litres of engine oil What is the oil sump capacity of common cars like Wira/Waja/Myvi/Vios/City?

QUOTE(Quazacolt @ Apr 24 2012, 10:12 PM) 4-5 liters or less. notice how you only need 3.x liters of engine oil commonly? that's why I am puzzled. Why 3.xL already hit FULL mark at dipstick when oil sump is 4-5L ? Must it have some empty space to "breathe" ?

QUOTE(Optiplex330 @ May 7 2012, 07:58 PM) Well, we have used Mineral on several turbo diesel (tougher on oil than gasoline) and never have problem. OCI was supposed to be 5K but sometime no time to change oil so went to 10K at times. When sold at 500K (other parts of the car are starting to fail), still not consuming any engine oil and never gave any problem so never bother to open up to see what the inside is like. So we never see any need to spend extra on FS. BTW, we use very good quality Mineral (Delo400). Never Cap Ayam brand or from questionable outlet for fear of fake oil. Where to buy Delo400 in 18L / 20L packing ?

Brand: ENEOS Mineral 15w40 Price: RM65 Feedback: Engine started to have noise (more and more noticeable) after 3000km mileage.
Bought LiquiMoly leichtlauf MoS2 10w40 already, will pour in soon, still have 1600km to go.

Dear sifu,
Will switching to lower viscosity lubricant result in faster idling RPM? My engine now turns at 1300-1400rpm (using 15w40 mineral) compared to 1000-1100rpm (when using 20w50 mineral).

QUOTE(Optiplex330 @ Aug 9 2012, 10:23 AM) Actually, picking a correct engine oil need not require a rocket scientist or a Phd in Chemistry. All one need to do is, read the car manual and use the oil specified and change at correct OCI. Case closed. Unfortunately, vast majority of motorist never read their manual. Take a example. There are plenty of Proton car owner but according to the manual, you can use 10W30 but not 5W30 in Malaysia. But 99% of owner don't know that because they never read their manual. May be Malaysian don't know how to read? I thought we only need to look at the number behind the "w" ? In my observation, most 10w30 oils are mineral based, while 5w30 are mostly semi syn.
